Woman Films Dance Trend, Accidentally Captures Disaster in the Background
A TikToker's attempt to join a viral trend inspired by Saturday Night Live's "Back Home Ballers" sketch turned into an unexpected game of chase when her family dog bolted out the front door mid-video.
In a post on TikTok that now has over 11 million views, creator stephhh727 shared the hilarious moment. As she walked through the front door lip-syncing to the catchy anthem from the iconic SNL sketch, the family's 10-month-old German shepherd Kobe spotted his chance and dashed out into the neighborhood.
The home's security cameras captured the chaos that ensued as the family sprang into action to retrieve the runaway dog. Steph instantly had to abandon her viral video routine and chase after the pet who was casually making his way into the front yard.
"He likes to be chased. He thinks it's a game, so he kept running," Steph said in the video.
Kobe, embodying the playful energy of a puppy, led the family on an impromptu workout session as they tried to lure him back home. The chase culminated in a clever turn of the tables when Steph pretended to run away from Kobe, tricking him into following her instead. The plan worked, and the mischievous pup was safely brought back inside.
The viral video also served as an unintended tribute to the enduring popularity of "Back Home Ballers," a parody music video that debuted on SNL in 2014. The sketch, featuring cast members like Kate McKinnon and Cecily Strong, humorously highlights the perks of being pampered at home during the holidays.
In the comments, people shared their reactions. @Tac2589 said: "That was actually pretty smart having him chase you instead."
Amy Wingfield wrote: "As someone with a German shepherd who gets out at least twice a week... I feel this."
Mackenzie_Buccola laughed: "This was so chaotic lol."
While Steph may not have expected to relive the highs and lows of a German shepherd's antics alongside her SNL-inspired moment, it left plenty of people in stitches. One commenter, and fellow dog owner, did reassure Steph that she isn't alone, though, and said: "Our husky does this at least once a week."
"My dog is the same. Any chance you get out of the house and if you chase him he'll run and run," agreed another.
