Moment Bernese Mountain Dog Finally Sees Snow Again Goes Viral
A heartwarming video of Chonk, a Bernese mountain dog, reveling in the snow has captured the hearts of TikTok users, amassing over 380,000 views.
In the clip shared to @chonktheberner, he is seen joyfully trotting down a snowy pathway, leaping to catch snowflakes and playfully burying his nose in the fresh powder.
The text overlaid on the November 28 video reads, "He's waited all year for snow to return," showcasing the Chicago-based dog's pure delight in winter's arrival.
The American Kennel Club (AKC) notes that Bernese mountain dogs thrive in cold-weather activities, making snowy strolls a perfect fit for this hardy breed.
Originating in Bern, Switzerland, these dogs were bred as versatile farm helpers, excelling in tasks like herding, drafting, and protecting the farmyard. Today, they're also cherished for their gentle nature and role as beloved family companions.
Chonk's snowy escapades are a delightful reminder of the joy that winter can bring—not just to humans, but to our furry friends too.
"It's their happiest day of the year," said one user, while another called him "a little snow angel."
"I guess I'm a Bernese mountain dog. Nothing makes me so happy like snow does," wrote another commenter.
"I want one so bad but I live in Texas where it doesn't snow so I think that's cruel for that breed. It's too hot here," said one user.
A fourth said: "The look of relief in their eyes when the snow finally comes!! The cool down must feel amazing. He won't be going back in the house any time soon!!!!"
Indeed, dogs that are made for the snow would much rather stay outdoors and embrace colder climates than cozy up inside.
Newsweek previously spoke to a man about his Newfoundland dog who preferred to sleep outside in the snow while pregnant.
"I had a fire burning and it was too hot inside," said Jason Rossman, who explained that the dog wasn't locked outside and could enter the home at any point through a door designed for the canine.
Chonk's joyous frolic in the snow not only highlights the natural inclinations of certain dog breeds but also serves as a heartwarming reminder of the simple pleasures that the winter season can offer to both animals and humans alike.
