Woman Sets Up Camera to Film Disruptive Puppy, It Doesn't Disappoint
You don't have to be a golden retriever owner to know they are high-energy dogs, but it's been demonstrated anyway on social media by a puppy named Atlas.
In a TikTok video, he can be seen in action, preventing his owner from mopping the floor as he playfully attempts to catch the household tool.
The text layered over the joyous scene says: "If my husband asks why I don't get anything done with Atlas...I'm going to send him this."
The video quickly went viral, gathering 1.1 million views in just two days after posting on Sunday.
5 Tips for Keeping Your House Clean With Pets
Indeed, keeping the house clean and tidy as a pet owner is a major task by itself, never mind with a hyperactive puppy around.
HouseBeautiful.com, the website for the home design and interior decorating magazine, some tips on how to keep a house clean with pets:
- Keep your pets clean by regularly taking them to the groomers and washing them with plain water after a muddy walk.
- Invest in a high-quality vacuum cleaner with extra strong suction, a quality filter and a good brush to lift hair rather than glide over it.
- Air out your home by opening the windows to let in fresh air. Minimize smells by dealing quickly with accidents.
- Regularly clean your pets' belongings, including pet beds, toys and leashes, as they can pick up strong odors and need frequent cleaning.
- Buy an appropriate dog bed. Choose a water-resistant and easy-to-clean bed so you can wipe it down weekly and leave it to air out in the sun whenever possible.
TikTok Reacts
While Atlas' owner was unable to complete her mopping task, she remained unfazed, and plenty of users went to the comments section to defend the dog.
One said: "Just trying to keep you safe from the mop monster! So furrrrocious."
"Get him some microfiber paw shoes. Buff that floor right up for ya," suggested another.
A third commenter said: "My dog does this too. And with the vacuum cleaner and takes socks out of the laundry basket when I'm trying to fold laundry."
Other owners said their dogs do the same, and some are scared of the vacuum cleaner. Newsweek previously discussed this fear with Kennel Club–accredited dog trainer Joe Nutkins.
She said: "Vacuums make a new sound which can worry noise-sensitive dogs or confuse other dogs."
When vacuums are used, their movements can cause natural instincts like herding (chasing and biting the vacuum), territorial (needing to control the space around them) or guarding (protecting their home/family), Nutkins said.
Newsweek reached out to @atlas.the.golden.boy for comment via TikTok and could not verify the details of the case.
