'Chonky' Cat Ensures Work Knows She's in the Meeting—Internet Loves It

A cat owner from Houston, Texas, was about to join a work video call when his cat decided to show everyone she was also attending, and internet users can't stop laughing at the hilarious clip.

In a viral TikTok post shared in November under the username @buff_catdad, the tabby cat can be seen sitting on her owner's work laptop as he tries to join the conference, looking as if she knows exactly what she's doing.

"POV [point of view]: my chonky queen making sure everyone at my company knows she's at the meeting," reads layover text in the clip. "Queen of the chonks does not miss a SINGLE meeting, and today she made sure everyone knew it," the caption says.

Working from home has been a common practice since 2020, after the COVID-19 pandemic hit, and those who benefited from it the most were probably pets and their owners, who got to spend lots of extra time together throughout the day.

Data published on the National Library of Medicine's website, says that having pets while working form home can enhance the experience, because their presence increases humans' endogenous oxytocin concentrations and reduces heart rate and blood pressure.

Taking care of a pet while working remotely can also help people get a more defined structure to their day; for example scheduling a time to take a pup out for a walk may set boundaries that denote a clear start and an end to the workday.

Other benefits of working from home with pets, as highlighted in the study, include motivation to do more physical activity and the facilitation of social interaction.

Forbes estimates that about one in five workers still operate remotely, and by 2025 over 22 percent of the workforce will be working from home. While only 16 percent of companies operate fully remotely, 98 percent of workers have expressed the desire to work from home at least some days during the week.

The video quickly went viral on social media and it has so far received over 153,500 views and 27,600 likes on the platform.

One user, Big daddy W, commented: "And she looks mad that she has to be there 'this could've been an email."

Jls said: "I would actually prefer for all my meetings to be the back of a cat's head thank you."

Monotonousrainbow1 added: "I love my co-workers but I would be thrilled if their pets were the ones on screen instead of."
