Woman Wonders Why Front Door Is Wide Open, Checks Security Cam to Find Out
Upset about why her front door was left open overnight, a woman couldn't believe what had happened when she checked the security camera the next day.
TikTok user @thefunnyfarm89 woke up one morning to discover the door was wide open. Immediate worry rushed through her. Did someone break in? Had she been robbed? Thankfully, she had an indoor security camera overlooking the door that could help her get to the bottom of the mystery. But what she saw was the last thing she suspected: her dog.
The security camera footage, which was shared in a November 23 TikTok video, showed her dog standing in front of the door. He stood up on his back legs as his front paws worked on opening the door. It took a couple of tries, but eventually his paw slammed down on the handle. He successfully unlatched it, and the door opened slightly.
He took his chance without hesitating, slipped through the door and went outside. He was a free doggy.
The text on the video reads: "6am...your dog decides to take himself outside."
The owner never suspected her dog was the culprit. But when she saw the footage, it came as a great relief.
"I thought someone had been in my house overnight lol," she told Newsweek via TikTok. "I am glad I had the cameras or I'd have never believed it!"
A follow-up video gave viewers a better look at how the dog managed to open the door. The owner said the keys were still in the door, which she was positive she had locked. She wrote in a comment that she checked the security cameras to see whether she had locked the door, and at 10:15 p.m. the deed was done.
However, the dog saw the keys and started adjusting them with his mouth. He somehow managed to turn them just right, allowing him to use the handle.
The TikTok video has amassed over 51,100 views, 2,884 likes and 62 comments as of Tuesday.
"The way he stopped to make sure you didn't hear the door open," said one viewer.
Coming to the dog's defense, someone else wrote: "He fancied a morning walk? What's the problem?"
The owner jokingly replied that he was on the sofa "reading the morning paper" when she woke up.
Another user suggested she "get a dead bolt" because he's clearly outsmarted the keys.
