Schnauzer's 'Polite' Manners on Train Journey Leave Internet Speechless
A video of a well-behaved schnauzer traveling on a train has left the internet in awe.
One-year-old Snoopy appears to be unfazed by the railway carriage and even seems to enjoy the views as he looks out of the window.
His calm demeanor has received a lot of attention on TikTok (@ohsosnoopy), gathering 408,500 views and 74,000 likes.
The text layered over the heartwarming scene says: "This little guy on the train was so polite."
Many other schnauzer owners have commented, saying their dog would never act the same.
"Snoopy is such a good boy... my schnauzer would be barking nonstop, jumping on everyone," said one user. Another asked: "My schnauz would be screaming at every blade of grass... how did you get a quiet one? Don't remember that being on the options list."
Other comments include compliments such as: "He's just so kind, polite, and soft. I'm obsessed."
According to the American Kennel Club (AKC), these dogs are somewhat vocal, which explains why other owners wonder how Snoopy is so silent. They are also eager to please during training, which can be especially helpful when preparing your furry friend for a ride on the subway, bus, or train.
How to Prepare Your Dog for Public Transit
The AKC has provided the following tips to prepare your pet for the loud noises, and chaos that often come with public transport:
- Socialize Your Dog: Expose your dog to a variety of people and environments. Visit shopping areas and parks, and practice having them lie calmly at your feet to get used to relaxing in public.
- Teach Basic Commands: Ensure your dog knows commands like "down"and "stay" to help maintain their safety. Commands such as "wait" at doorways, "come," and "quiet" are also very useful.
- Consider Comfort: If you'll be using a carrier, introduce it to your dog at home and on short car trips to build familiarity and comfort.
- Desensitize to Noises: Gradually expose your dog to recorded sounds of subways, announcements, and car horns. Pair these sounds with treats to create positive associations and reduce anxiety.
- Focus Attention on You: Train your dog to walk on a short leash, stay by your side, and ignore strangers unless invited to say hello. Keep in mind, not everyone is comfortable around dogs.
- Protect Their Health: Ensure your dog is up to date on vaccinations and carry immunization records when traveling.
- Check Identification: Equip your dog with a microchip and a collar tag with your contact information, making it easier to locate them if they get lost.
- Pack Essentials: Bring along water, a collapsible bowl, waste bags, cleaning supplies, a blanket or towel, and some treats.
- Watch for Stress Signals: If your dog shows signs of anxiety that aren't relieved by your calm presence or their experience on the ride, it might be best to leave them at home next time.
