Owner Unsure Why Dog Is Digging Hole, Then She Spots 'Little White Paw'
An owner couldn't get to the bottom of why her dog was digging next to a fence—until she spotted a "little white paw" poking through. What occurred in the weeks afterward took her by surprise.
Like many pet owners, artist Sav Macc was filled with frustration when she saw her dog, Sandy, digging by the fence.
"I put a lot of effort into gardening and making my backyard look fabulous, so I wasn't too pleased to see that Sandy had started digging by my fence," she told Newsweek via TikTok. "So I went outside and to get on to her for it."
She couldn't understand why her dog wanted to dig in the first place, but after a few weeks, the reason finally revealed itself: the neighbor's cat.
"I walked outside and to my surprise I saw the cutest little white paw just waving through mine and my neighbor's shared fence," she said. "It was right where Sandy's digging spot was. Seeing that paw quickly became the highlight of Sandy's day."
The fascination between Sandy and the neighbor's cat didn't stop at the fence. She said in a November 17 TikTok video (@savmaccontiktok) that the relationship between the two animals had only just begun.
A few weeks after trying to come through the fence, the cat started making house visits. However, the first visit scared Macc a bit. She heard a tap at the window. She expected Sandy to bark, but instead the dog was excited.
"I nervously opened my blinds and there was her friend with her head leaning against the window," she said. "Sandy put her head against it too, and I watched as they both nestled their heads on the opposite sides of the glass."
The visits continued for the next three nights. That's when Macc finally decided to let the cat inside. When she did, said it was as if they had known each other in a different lifetime.
Although the digging initially frustrated Macc, the friendship that grew because of it touched her heart. She learned that the two pets needed each other's friendship. The videos show them snuggling with each other. The cat felt comfortable enough to make biscuits on the dog's stomach. Giving her love back, Sandy kept licking the cat.
The clip has over half a million views and 127,700 likes on TikTok, and viewers couldn't get over the preciousness and how easily the pets' relationship grew.
"Looks like they're old pals that found each other again," said one viewer.
Another added: "OMG!!! This is the cutest video!!!! The biscuits on the belly."
A third person wrote: "Cats are so good at choosing their own friends. Kitty just knew that situation was cozy at your place."
Someone asked whether Macc knows the cat's owner, which she does. Her neighbor rescued the cat after she was dumped on the side of the road.
Macc wrote in a comment: "She's an incredible lady. We are close."
