Australian Shepherd Has Passionate Reaction to Sirens: 'In His Feelings'

Social media viewers are obsessed with an Australian shepherd whose favorite hobby is giving his "heart to the howl."

Kaido the Aussie is the adored pet of Matt Fernandez, 30, who lives in Brooklyn, New York, and regularly shares clips of his pup to their shared Instagram and TikTok accounts.

Many of these show Kaido howling at the top of his lungs, often gaining a small audience of passersby smiling at him as he joins in the chorus of sirens regularly heard in New York City.

"He always howled even from a very young age," Fernandez told Newsweek. "I actually lived relatively close to a fire station, and whenever they would drive by he would sing the song of his people."

One video, showing Kaido giving an extra-special howl, has gone viral after being shared to their TikTok account, @mattyandkaido, on December 6.

In the short clip, which has 240,000 views, Kaido listens, ears pricked up, to a siren in the near distance and then joins in with such vigor that his front paws literally leave the ground as he sits on his hind legs, howling wildly.

He pauses, realizes the siren is still sounding, and then howls for a second time, this time in an even higher pitch.

"Gave his heart to the howl," Fernandez wrote on the clip, adding in a caption: "His feet literally leaving the ground!"

He told Newsweek: "He gives 110 percent into his howl. It's crazy cute. His feet leaving the ground was an extra-special howl, but in all his howls he puts his heart and soul into it."

TikTok users loved it, with one commenter writing:" Going up in octaves was impressive." Another pointed out he "awoo'd so hard his feet came off the ground." Fernandez responded: "He almost took off into space."

"He was in his feelings," one user wrote, and as another put it: "He's trying to do his Civic Duty."

Dogs can howl for many reasons, from anxiety to health problems, but also from hearing "trigger sounds," according to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

These triggers can often be the sound of another dog howling or, as in Kaido's case, a nearby siren.

Fernandez, who had "always wanted a dog," told Newsweek Kaido joined his family after a long-term relationship came to an end and he "needed companionship."

"Just felt like the right time," he said, calling it the "best decision."

Now, he says, "I'm just happy I can share him with the world, as he brings me so much happiness. It's great knowing other people's days are just a bit brighter."
