Internet in Stitches at How Cat Is 'Adjusting' to New Puppy Sister
Animal lovers have been left in stitches over the way a cat is adjusting to having a new puppy in the house.
One TikTok user shared a short clip of her two pets to her account @mariahsteele_ on December 8, and couldn't have imagined just how much the internet would love it.
Since being shared just five days ago, the nine-second video has been viewed over 10 million times, racking up 2 million likes and thousands of comments in the process.
It shows what could almost be a picturesque Christmas scene: a tree filled with lights twinkling in the background, while in the foreground a cat and golden retriever puppy interact.
Except this encounter isn't one you'd find on a Christmas card, as the animals are playing in possibly the most violent way possible without actually injuring each other.
White cat Walter sits up on his haunches on the sofa, just out of reach of the puppy, who is reaching forward to try to gently bite the cat—who is repeatedly batting Winnie the puppy in the face.
After delivering multiple blows, the cat hops down from the sofa and is instantly chased by the pup.
And despite the chaos, neither dog nor cat makes a single sound.
Steele wrote in the caption: "Walter is adjusting well to Winnie."
TikTok users were in stitches, with one pointing out how "they fight so quietly," and another aptly commentating the fight: "Take that, take that, take that!"
One said Winnie the puppy is "literally eating those punches," while one noted how Walter's claws weren't out by writing: "Attack 100% ,damage caused 0 %."
It's clear in the video that the animals are playing rather than fighting: according to a vet-reviewed article from Catster.com, if a cat is silent while attacking, it is playing, as they tend to hiss or growl when they fight for real.
Walter's claws are also not out, and his body language is relaxed despite standing up, two other ways that indicate your cat is playing.
Steele, who lives in Kentucky, later shared Walter and Winnie's "round two" to TikTok, showing the pair pouncing at each other and Walter lazily keeping a paw on the puppy as she sniffed around the sofa.
