Heartbreaking Reason Rescue Dog Is Fascinated by Christmas Tree

An Oklahoma woman has left the internet in tears after revealing the heartbreaking reason her rescue pit bull is so fascinated by the Christmas tree.

Sara Garcia, 29, adopted Ghost back in August, and he settled into his new home incredibly well from the beginning. But in early December, she started to notice a shift in his behavior, all because of the Christmas tree.

Garcia explained to Newsweek that Ghost was "curious about the tree" from the very moment she took it out of the box. He was utterly fascinated and couldn't stop staring at the new festive décor.

Seeing this change in his behavior was intriguing for Garcia, until she made a startling realization. The reason why he's so obsessed with the Christmas tree is probably because he's never even seen one before.

Garcia said: "I remember the first day I put it up, he kept jumping off the couch to look at it, and he would stare at it every time he walked past it. I looked at my friend and said he acts like he's never seen a Christmas tree before—that's when it hit me that maybe he really hadn't."

The tree has been up for a few weeks, but Ghost is still obsessed with it and stares at it every day. His owner constantly catches him standing beside it, staring at the twinkling lights and wagging his tail happily.

So far, he isn't as bothered about any other festive decorations or ornaments around the house. It appears it's only the tree that he's completely amazed by.

Needless to say, if this is the first time the pit bull has got to celebrate Christmas, Garcia is going to make it memorable by all means. "He is getting plenty of Christmas gifts this year. He has a stocking full of presents, and we are going to take him to see the Christmas lights too," she told Newsweek.

After realizing the sweet reason why Ghost is so intrigued by the tree, Garcia shared it in a video posted on TikTok (@sararenee.garcia). The clip melted plenty of hearts as it went viral with more than 312,800 views and 57,700 likes in a matter of days.

Alongside the adorable clip, the caption reads: "You can't buy love, but you can rescue it."

Prior to adopting Ghost, Garcia wasn't told much about his past, other than the fact he was found "infested with fleas" and suffered some loss of fur as a result.

She never imagined that this video would capture so much attention online, but she hopes it will encourage plenty more people to open their homes to a rescue pet in the future.

Garcia said: "I remember going to the animal shelter with my friend in August, and originally, we were just going to spend some time there and give the dogs some love. But then I saw Ghost and we bonded instantly.

"He settled into our home quicker than I could've ever imagined, considering we knew nothing about his past. He has provided my family with so much love and happiness since then, and I can't imagine a life without him."

The viral TikTok video has amassed more than 1,100 comments at the time of writing, as many internet users provided suggestions for what Garcia could do to make Ghost's first Christmas even better.

One comment reads: "The way he just sits and peacefully looks at the lights. His soul is at rest. We don't deserve dogs."

Another TikToker wrote: "You gotta make a print of his paw to hang on the tree, his 1st ornament."

While one person added: "Take him for a car ride so he can see all the lights."
