New Owner Has Message for Puppy's Family: 'Hope His Birth Mom Knows'

The result of a puppy's destructive and curious tendencies left his owner hoping his birth mother knew about his bad behavior.

TikTok user @ceejustshutup decorated the house for the upcoming holiday by placing a decked-out Christmas tree in the living room. But her puppy, like many pets, found the tree enticing. It was like a new playground that needed to be explored. Dogs are often drawn to Christmas trees because of the new smells and the ornaments look like toys.

That was true for this pup and when you mix in the fact this Cane Corso is still training, you get a disaster waiting to happen. The owner tried to avoid any bad situation from happening by placing a gate around the tree, but the dog still couldn't resist.

In the December 2 TikTok video, the pup kept circling the gate trying to find a way in. He tried biting it and placing his paw on it. But with no luck, he ran around again. This time he found an opening and it was downhill from there. Ornaments fell, the lights turned off and the tree skirt twisted up.

His behavior prompted the owner to think about the dog's birth mom and whether or not she had a clue about how he's turned out thus far. The text on the video reads: "I hope his birth mom knows he's SO bad."

The dog's bad behavior quickly went viral, bringing in over 7.3 million views and 1.2 million likes as of Monday.

"I'm sure his birth mom is glad you're his new mom," joked a viewer, while a second pointed out: "The gate around the tree told us everything we needed to know."

Another added: "I blinked and he was inside the gate being a menace."

Looking on the bright side, someone commented: "This was my puppy last year. This year, he's scared of the tree. Hope that helps."

Are Christmas Trees Toxic to Dogs?

Christmas trees are a staple when decorating one's home for the holidays, but these festive firs present dangers to pets. Certain aspects of these trees can be toxic to dogs.

An article posted by Boundary Vets stated that a tree's needles, either real or artificial, can be harmful if ingested, potentially causing gastrointestinal irritation, vomiting or obstruction. These sharp needles could also puncture the digestive tract, which might lead to more severe health issues.

The water used to keep the tree fresh can be toxic as it often contains chemicals such as fertilizers or pesticides. Symptoms of a dog drinking the water include vomiting, diarrhea or lethargy. Some tree types, such as pine, spruce or fir, contain oils that could irritate a dog's mouth and stomach.

The decorations and ornaments on the tree might also be dangerous to dogs. Sometimes these items fall and break. Those broken ornaments could cause cuts and internal injuries if ingested.
