Hearts Melt as Dog Adopts Stray While on Vacation: 'Can We Please Keep Him'
A TikTok video capturing how a dog befriended a stray on vacation has gained viral attention, moving viewers on the platform and eliciting emotional responses in the comments.
The dog's owner walked viewers online through how her pet, Chester, befriended the stray while on a travel contract in Paintsville, Kentucky. Noticing how the pair had become inseparable, and with no one coming forward to claim the stray as their pet, Chester's owner decided to adopt the stray, now named Frank.
The viral video recounting the owner's journey was shared to the platform on October 16 under @adventurechester. The short clip has amassed more than 143,000 views and 18,000 likes to date.
In the video, viewers can see Chester greeting and playing with Frank on a lawn outside the hotel, and later snuggling up to his new sibling on a sofa. The video ends with an image of the owner cuddling the family's new addition.
An overlaid text on the video read: "We were staying at a hotel in Kentucky, there were stray dogs everywhere. Chester fell in love with this one and he followed us back to the hotel. They had so much fun together, I knew I had to keep him. And just like that...'Frank' became a part of our little family."
The post had been captioned: "Chester made me do it."
Viewers on TikTok have flooded the comments section with emotional reactions, celebrating Chester's compassion and the owner's move to rehome the stray now known as Frank.
"What a lovely person you are," one viewer said.
Another added: "You deserve the world for keeping him."
"Thank you for adopting this sweet baby," a third viewer said.
Another added: "You dog's face was like can we please keep him? I'll share my food and bed. Pleaaaaaass mooooooom?????"
However, some viewers expressed concerns that Frank may in fact have belonged to someone. His new owner responded clearly, debunking their assumptions.
One viewer said: "Are you sure Frank wasn't someone else's just lost?"
"I was staying there on a 13-week travel contract for work, they had plenty of time to claim him if he was someone's baby," the pets' owner replied. "Very small rural town."
Chester and Frank's owner also clarified that the collar seen on Frank during the short video was purchased and put on by them, after coming to the conclusion that he did not have a home.
