Overlooked Dog Who Slept Through Adoption Event Finds Forever Home
Hearts have melted for a dog who had so given up hope on getting a forever home that he slept through his shelter's adoption events—but has now been adopted.
Shelter dog Teddy recently went viral when TikTok user Brittany Fleming posted a short clip of the dozing dog to her account, @brittanyfleming9, on November 29.
In the video, Teddy is curled up in his kennel, sleeping so soundly that he is snoring, as Fleming captioned it: "When you sleep during the big adoption event because you don't believe anyone is coming for you."
Fleming pleaded in the caption to the video, which has over 200,000 views: "Adopt Teddy."
And her plea went viral, with hundreds comment on the clip, one writing: "I will pay sweet Teddy's adoption fee if someone welcomes him into their family."
"I want him," another said, while one wrote: "please tell me he got adopted," and another urged Fleming: "Please update us!"
And it was good news for those hoping for an update, as Fleming later shared the happy news that Teddy had, indeed, been adopted from the Metro East Humane Society in Edwardsville, Illinois.
A video shared on December 13 saw Teddy being led out of the kennel on a leash, looking eager to go with his tail wagging and pulling gently, before hopping into a car with his new owner.
And a photo, shared at the end of the clip, showed the new pet cuddled up on a couch, his head resting on his owner's lap.
Fleming shared the update with the simple words: "Look who got adopted!"
Naturally, the response from commenters was much more positive than before, as one wrote: "YAY!!! please bless that baby. Hope you love your new home!!!!"
"Thank you for the update, we're so happy for Teddy boy," another said, as one admitted they were "crying."
And as one put it: "Thank you, kind people. YOU ARE TRULY GODSENT."
Each year, around 6.3 million animals enter shelters across the United States, according to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA).
This figure has declined from 7.2 million in 2011, and in further positive news, around 4.1 million shelter animals are adopted each year, including 2 million dogs, the ASPCA reports.
Fleming's TikTok account is filled with other dogs waiting patiently to find their perfect family, from tiny lapdogs to gentle giants, including one sweet video of now-adopted Teddy meeting Santa Claus, and getting a toy for being so well behaved.
