Watch Rescue Dog Reacts to Owner Confronting Her About Pet Cam Video
A couple working on a rescue dog's barking while home alone confronted her after they discovered a setback while watching the pet camera.
After being rescued, Angel the cane corso mix started showing symptoms of separation anxiety. Her owners said she has become "very attached" to them and struggles while home alone. Separation anxiety affects about 14 percent of all dogs, the American Kennel Club reported. To overcome this, the owners have been working daily to train and counter-condition Angel when she is home alone.
"We've had her two years, so it's been a really long process of trial and error," the owner told Newsweek via TikTok. "[We're] working with our charity we got her from and their behaviorists."
At the moment, the couple can leave Angel alone for about 20 to 30 minutes, which they noted might not seem long, but it is a significant improvement from where they started. "We couldn't even get off the sofa initially without her getting up and following us around," the owner said.
The couple has been documenting their progress on the TikTok account @the.lady.of.lewis, but a November 28 video revealed Angel had a "slight set back." The owners spotted Angel barking on the pet camera when she was home alone. They left the television on to hopefully distract her, but they saw her barking the entire time.
The clip shows the owners walking in and immediately confronting her about the regression. However, Angel denied anything the couple thought they saw. She sat like a princess on the couch with her tail wagging as they entered. Her face scrunched up at the accusations.
Angel didn't like how her owners automatically assumed she had been barking, although, little did she know, they saw it all unfold through the pet camera. She wouldn't look at them until she received an apology for the barking accusation and being left alone.
The owners didn't come right out and say "I'm sorry," but Angel accepted pets in lieu of a verbal apology.
TikTok viewers immediately defended Angel, claiming the cameras were faulty and that they were blaming the wrong dog.
"No, I don't think this is true. All I can see is a lil innocent lady," wrote a viewer.
Another added: "Looks like she's been fast asleep to me. Must've been someone else you saw on the camera."
Other viewers offered support that their training will pay off: "We all have bad days, you've got this sweet angel girl!"
