Tree Topper Keeps Falling Off, Then Pet Cam Footage Reveals the Culprit

A woman was left perplexed at how her Christmas tree topper kept ending up on the floor, but once she looked at her pet camera footage, she learned who the culprit was.

Sara Safa, 26, noticed that the star at the top of her tree had landed on the floor a few times, only to wind up as her dog's newest toy. Her pup, Jet, is only a toy poodle, so she thought it couldn't possibly be him. Indeed, for a while, she assumed the star was just unstable and simply fell by itself.

That changed when Safa, of New York City, checked her pet cam and spotted Jet mischievously shaking the tree to loosen the star. She had no idea it was all Jet's doing, and Safa told Newsweek that she "thought it was hysterical" when she saw the footage.

"I was getting ready for work and heard him playing with something, so I went into my living room to find him playing with the topper," Safa said. "It had happened a few days before, and I thought it had fallen on its own.

"He found an ornament near the bottom of the tree and pulled at it until it shook the tree enough to the point where the topper fell. I like to tell myself Jet is low-key human because he's a genius when it comes to things like this," Safa continued.

With so many toys already, she never imagined that Jet would be so enamored by the star on her tree. But it appears to have become his new favorite toy, as she said he throws it around and bites into it whenever he can.

The toy poodle loves anything that makes a crunching sound, so Safa thinks that, once he realized the star could do that, he couldn't get enough of it. However, it still remains a mystery as to how he came to realize that in the first place.

After finally catching him in the act, Safa couldn't help but show her colleagues the video, and she even posted it on social media. She shared the hilarious clip on TikTok (@sarasafa19) and it delighted internet users. In just a matter of days, the video has amassed over 168,000 views and more than 16,900 likes on TikTok at the time of writing.

Safa has been amazed by the positive response since sharing the clip online. She told Newsweek: "Everyone's loved it. It's been all positive reactions and comments about how smart he is."

Jet hasn't stopped his antics since being caught either, as Safa has found him playing with the topper an additional four times since the video was captured. Every now and then, she sees him approach the tree and try shaking it subtly, even with his owner right there.

Since the clip went viral on TikTok, many people lauded his cheeky antics and his intelligence to figure out how to get exactly what he wanted.

One comment reads: "I find the defendant guilty on all counts."

Another person wrote: "He's like, why do you keep putting my toy back up there."

A third TikTok user posted: "The tree is a toy dispenser."
