Woman Will 'Never Recover' After Discovering Why Dog Sleeps on Her Pillow
The heartwarming moment a dog owner realized the true reason her pet was sleeping on her pillow has captured hearts.
Winnie, a 4-year-old Australian Cattle Dog, was caught on camera resting peacefully on owner April Butler's bed.
Butler, who lives in Queensland, Australia, shared the video with fellow dog owners as she realized why her pup enjoyed sleeping on her pillow. The video on TikTok, seen here, has since been viewed over 1.2 million times.
"I will never recover from learning that dogs sleep on pillows to be comforted by the smell of their owners," the text overlay said.
In the video caption, she added: "I always thought Winnie just liked the head support, but since learning this, I've realized she always specifically seeks out the pillow on my side of the bed. Having this realization honestly altered my brain chemistry. What a privilege it is to be your dog's favorite person."
"She will always sleep on the pillow whenever she has the opportunity to sneak onto my bed," Butler told Newsweek.
As the views on the video increased, so too did reactions from fellow pet owners.
"Love this! Yes, all of my dogs have slept on my pillows," said Brenna.
While another viewer, Rayne, said: "Every day I come home from work my dog is in my bed under the covers, or on my pillow. I used to keep him out of there, but I know it brings him comfort when he's lonely."
Others shared similar stories of their dogs enjoying sleeping on the pillows. Kenzie said: "Whenever our senior pup gets in our bed, we find she pulls down the blankets and snuggles in our pillows."
While Vickie630 wrote: "Yes, my dog does that too! It's so precious!"
"I shared to help other owners understand their dogs better and help explain common behaviors," Bulter said. "It makes me happy to know she always seeks out my pillow specifically for comfort, as it's a testament to our relationship."
Not everyone opts to have their dog sleep on the bed, though, as the idea of letting a canine friend into a human bed is divisive, and some experts have even said there are dangers to consider.
Opportunity Barks' founder and dog trainer Leigh Siegfried previously told Newsweek: "Is letting your dog sleep in bed with you always a good thing? No. It can be dysfunctional, and it can undermine some dogs' confidence in being left alone or worse still, lead to them developing separation anxiety."
