Neighbor Adamant His Animals Won't Escape Gets Big Shock a Week Later

Karma caught up with a neighbor after a Reddit user unsuccessfully advised him to build a chicken coop to prevent the chickens from escaping his yard.

On subreddit channel r/funny, Reddit user KarateKid1984 shared the flyer he found posted in the neighborhood of a missing chicken. While nothing is funny about a missing pet and he feels bad for the chicken, the Redditor finds it ironic that the flyer was posted a week after he suggested building a chicken coop, which is beneficial for keeping these animals safe from weather conditions, predators and escapes.

"Well, what happened was originally I came downstairs one morning and there was a chicken on the fence between his yard and my yard," he told Newsweek. "I've lived here for 8 years and we have 8-foot fences. I've never seen more than a bird or squirrel.
You can imagine a full-grown chicken was a shock."

Since the neighbor was new, the Redditor thought to go over, introduce himself and ask if the chickens had a coop, since they can escape easily.

"We're not even allowed to have chickens here but I thought it was kinda neat so I was just being helpful," he added.

But that plan quickly backfired. The Redditor user claimed in his June 12 post that the neighbor "screamed" at him and said, "Chickens can't fly or escape his backyard," and, as the flyer revealed, a chicken escaped.

The Reddit user noticed the sign announcing the missing chicken about a week after his interaction with the neighbor. Signs were posted up and down the street. Kids ended up taking the flyers down but the neighbor kept replacing them.

He has not seen the neighbor since the flyers were posted but he did hear him yelling at the other chicken who didn't escape.

"[The chicken] was on top of his gazebo and he was telling it to come down," the Redditor said. "He built a pen for it which consisted of leaning some chicken wire up against the fence. Then he put up the tent."

He believes it's a two-person tent, with hay placed around it. But in no time, the chicken tore its way out.

Redditor Reactions

The post quickly gathered attention, reaching over 18,000 upvotes and 1,500 comments as of Wednesday.

"Probably just crossed the road," joked one viewer.

Another added: "I had the same convo with my kids and two days later, they flew the coup ... not my kids, tho."

A third person confirmed: "Chickens are friggen escape artists. They might not fly that well but they sure as hell will turbo boost on top a low wall."
