Dog's Haircut by Mom Turns Into 'Traumatic Experience' for All Involved
Thinking nothing could go wrong with a quick trim for her dog, one owner learned the hard way that grooming isn't as easy as it looks.
TikTok user @samaraspaulding decided to give her goldendoodle a shape-up, but the result turned into more than a trim. The dog's coat started with curly locks, giving her body a fuller look. However, after the scissors came out, that all changed.
Part of the June 6 TikTok video shows all the hair she cut off clumped together on the floor as her fur baby cowered in the corner. The owner's face and the dog's said it all: What the heck just happened? Her once picture-perfect dog looked like a mangled mess, with uneven hair all over her body.
The caption reads: "It was a traumatic experience for us both okay!"
Can anyone blame this owner, though? It seemed as if it would be easy, and plenty of others have attempted it with their dogs. But grooming a dog is an art.
Goldendoodles, a mix of a poodle and a golden retriever, need extra attention because their coat is a unique mixture of loose curls and shaggy strands. They are low-shedding dogs but still need regular brushing and frequent trims since their fur can easily mat.
The good news is that hair grows back. Maybe this owner will find comfort in knowing she isn't the only one whose attempt at grooming a dog backfired. One pet parent recently tried trimming a Maltese and pit bull mix's mane, only for a "gremlin" to result.
Another owner went viral for turning a miniature goldendoodle with luscious locks into a nearly hairless pup. The reason for this dramatic haircut was that the house had a flea infestation and the owners wanted to protect their dogs.
Viewer Reactions
The hilarious TikTok clip quickly went viral, bringing in over 5 million views, 856,500 likes and 2,530 comments.
"Your dog had a whole personality change just by a haircut," commented one viewer. The owner said her personality remained the same. In fact, the haircut might have made her even more chaotic.
Another added: "We take for granted the art of grooming."
A third person put the owner at ease, writing: "I think we all go through this as doodle parents lol."
