Woman Spends $35 To Get a Matching Tattoo With Her Dog

Inspired by her dog's tattoo from getting spayed, an owner decided it was time to get a matching one and the result quickly went viral.

Jocelyn, known on TikTok as @anitnyelcoj, brought home her 4-year-old English bulldog Lola when COVID-19 hit. She knew Lola would get a tiny tattoo during her spay appointment. Animal shelters, spay and neuter clinics or veterinarians commonly tattoo dogs following a spay and neuter surgery. Called a sterilization indicator tattoo, these tats are usually a short, straight line with blue or green ink.

Dogs receive these tattoos while already in the spay surgery. The common practice marks that a dog is fixed and eliminates the question down the line since the surgery scarring will sometimes fade.

Jocelyn was also expecting the tattoo since her brother went to the same vet and his dog came out of surgery with a tiny little heart, but instead of a heart, Lola got a pink flower tattoo.

The unique tattoo inspired Jocelyn to do the same as a way to honor and mark her special relationship with Lola forever. About two weeks ago and $35 later, Jocelyn went in for her version of Lola's tattoo and the results were beyond precious.

She couldn't have asked for a better result, exclaiming how cute she thought it turned out while speaking with Newsweek. She said the tattoo is especially meaningful for her since Lola is her first pet and this was her first tattoo.

What Do the Comments Say?

Jocelyn was surprised by the positive feedback she heard after posting the video. She received the tattoo in Tijuana and when explaining the significance, they didn't understand why her dog had one too. So when posting the clip, she figured most people would add negative comments about the dog's tattoo. That, however, was not the case.

The June 15 TikTok video quickly went viral, reaching over 2.3 million views, 335,800 likes and 743 comments as of Friday. Viewers fell in love with the idea and jealousy started seeping into the comment section.

"Wow. My dog just has a line. Wish they would've drawn a flower. I'VE BEEN ROBBED," wrote a TikToker.

A second user said: "The vets were feeling creative."

Others shared that their dogs have either tiny hearts or numbers tattooed on them. One even had a tiny lightning bolt. But the majority were disappointed their dogs only had tiny lines tattooed. That won't stop some pet parents.

"Apparently, all of us will have teal/green line tattoos," joked another.
