Hysterics at Dog's Embarrassment When He Gets 'Stuck'

The moment a dog got "stuck" while playing in the backyard has left social media users in stitches.

On TikTok, user @alijaeee posted a video showing a golden retriever named Charles rolling around on a lush, green lawn before his playful antics took an unexpected turn: The fluffy pup rolled into a sunken gap between the lawn and a concrete path.

"Poor Charles got stuck," the poster wrote in the video's caption, adding in text that appeared in the clip, "I think he's embarrassed."

The video has received 5.2 million views and more than 800,000 likes since its creator posted it on April 18. Newsweek has contacted @alijaeee for comment via TikTok.

In the video's comments section, viewers reacted to Charles' predicament in the backyard—with one writing, "No thoughts, only roll."

"You're telling me these used to survive in the wild," another added.

"He's stuck but also kind of okay with it," a commenter wrote.

A user said, "He tried to play it cool."

The American Kennel Club ranks golden retrievers as the third most popular dog breed in the U.S. The breed has a reputation of being much-loved pets, affectionate with families, and good with other dogs and children. So this is far from the first time a golden retriever's antics have gone viral.

A TikTok video posted on June 4 delighted viewers after showing one golden retriever's reaction to hearing the name of his owner's boyfriend. Another video from June 20 showed a golden politely asking his "best friend," a food-truck driver, for a pup cup.

Why Do Dogs Roll?

To most dog owners, rolling behavior is probably familiar. But why do they do it?

There are multiple reasons dogs may roll around on the ground. For example, dogs roll on grass to cover up their scent with environmental smells, thought to be an instinctual behavior to avoid detection by prey.

They may also roll in grass to pick up odors they find interesting or to cover up a scent they don't like (such as the shampoo you may have lovingly bathed them in).

Other reasons for rolling include to scratch an itch or communicate with other animals by leaving their scent behind, and some dogs love to roll around just for fun.

In a follow-up video, the poster joked about Chares' "killer instincts" as he rolled around the yard with one of his favorite toys.

Despite his slightly goofy behavior, the golden has received plenty of love from commenters.

"God I love it when doggos do the bear wiggle with their nose. So freaking cute," one wrote.

Another said, "What a cutie!!"

A user added, "We don't deserve dogs."
