Shelter Cat Used To Test New Dogs Is the Ultimate 'Gangster'

Cats are renowned for being fierce and fearless, but one in particular has been labelled by a pet shelter as the ultimate "gangster," and for a very good reason.

In a post shared on TikTok in April by Friends of Butler Co. Animals, who operate the Butler County Animal Shelter in Morgantown, Kentucky, the tabby cat can be seen confidently approaching a large-sized shelter dog without an ounce of fear.

The caption reads: "No one is more ganster than 'Cactus,' our shelter cat that helps us cat test our shelter dogs." This was followed by: "We [love] you cactus!"

Despite always being portrayed as mortal enemies, it turns out that cats and dogs can get along very well and, in some cases, they can even become best of friends.

A study carried out in 2020 by Italian scientists, published in the journal PLOS ONE, that questioned over 1,270 pet owners who own both a cat and a dog, proved that the two can easily cohabitate without much conflict.

According to the findings of the study, over 64 percent of the cats and dogs living together also played together; 58 percent chased each other; and 41 percent fought. Almost two-thirds of the pets sometimes playfully "ambushed" the other.

Moreover, cats are more likely to ignore dogs than vice versa, with 42 percent of cats ignoring canines, and 28 percent of dogs shunning cats. Cats were also more likely to attack dogs than vice versa.

The video quickly went viral on social media, getting viewers from across TikTok. It has so far received over 310,300 views and 26,100 likes on the platform.

One user, Jennifer Lundeby, commented: "I had Norman, he not only fearlessly cat tested, but happily lived in the kennels and desensitized. He is now retired to my home."

AmyE said: "When I was little we adopted Sam, an orange tabby who lived in the dog kennels. RIP Sam, you were a real one."

Darla added: "I love it I've been thinking about adopting a dog and wondering if they test them with cats cause I don't want to have to figure that out for myself alone."
