Woman Puts Sign on Door To Warn Guests About 'Rabid Muscle' Guard Dog

Plenty of dog owners know all too well the chaos associated with someone knocking on the front door. Dogs will either bark uncontrollably or jump up and down until they can smother the house guest with kisses, but one owner set up a method to train her dog and her visitors.

Lenka, a 2-year-old Czech shepherd cross, is what her owner calls "enthusiastic." Since a puppy, Lenka has always been high energy, but she also has a high drive, the owner told Newsweek via TikTok.

The family didn't want Lenka, a "rabid muscle" guard dog, hurling herself at the door to greet a guest with barking and growling. Trying to be a protective dog, this is what Lenka would do about six months ago. It forced the family to keep people from coming to the house as Lenka's extreme emotions would take over.

But, since Lenka's training on behavior with guests began, the dog has come a long way. To help Lenka, the owner placed a sign on the front door with specific instructions, as seen in the April 9 TikTok video posted to the account @lenkathedickhead. The owners want people to completely ignore Lenka—no touching, no speaking, no eye contact.

The purpose of the sign is to give Lenka ease. If every person follows the rules, then Lenka will know what to expect when guests come over.

As the caption reads: "Set your dog up for success by making things predictable. She wants to protect us. If we create a scenario where she can predict behaviour, it helps with her anxiety and need to 'guard' us."

"...this sign, which has been up about a year, has helped her regulate her extreme emotions!" the owner said. "She is actually super nervous so predictability is key. She needs to be ignored until she is calm otherwise she will physically assault you."

The rules already proved to help Lenka. When you walk through the front door now, you are welcomed by Lenka who is calmly sitting down. Because she has learned people ignore her, she expects it and in turn, she will leave the guests alone.

Overall, this method left Lenka happier, calmer and more pleased to see guests. The owner also noted it has "cured her outside reactivity and general insanity," which is huge because now, the family's 7-year-old will be able to have his friends come over knowing Lenka will be under control.

"Lenka has been one hell of a challenge and I am so proud of how far she has come," the owner said.

Viewer Reactions

The TikTok video amassed over 116,300 views, 2,993 likes and nearly 200 comments as of Tuesday. Plenty of dog owners shared their similar experiences.

"Same as our house! Our 15kg house hippo doesn't realise people don't want to get concussions with his brick head! Getting people to follow the rules is so hard!! He behaves if the humans do," said a viewer.

Another echoed: "We always asked people to ignore our dog, amazing how many grown adults couldn't follow instructions."

But, like humans, sometimes dogs don't follow instructions either: "My 30kg bundle of fun doesn't take no for an answer. No boundaries."
