Internet in Hysterics at Where 'Crate Trained' Dog Takes a Nap on Vacation
One of the great debates in dog ownership is whether to crate or not. While some pet parents claim it's cruel and damaging, others are standing by the benefits after a video proved some canines can't live without it.
A Wheaten terrier named Ivy was trying to catch up on her beauty rest while on vacation with the family. She's used to sleeping in her dog crate, but when the crate didn't fit in the car forcing her owners to leave it at home, Ivy got creative.
A July 7 TikTok video posted to the account @ivyheil shows Ivy adapting to the vacation home without her crate. She pivoted and found a side table tucked against the wall and couch. The bottom of the table was big enough for her to scootch under and with three sides blocked off from the walls and couch mimicking the sides of a crate, Ivy hoped right in.

The caption reads: "Poor Ivy just wants to nap in her crate."
Ivy seeking this space shouldn't come as a surprise. The American Kennel Club reported that dogs instinctively look to use small spaces as protective shelters. It helps them rest and relax.
Crate training is useful for dogs of all ages. Puppies will learn to hold and strengthen their bladder, which will help owners with house training. Senior dogs also benefit from crates by giving them a restful safe haven to relax their joints and take naps. Plus, sleeping in a crate could prevent nighttime wandering and will make transportation to the vet easier.
'Where's My House?'
The TikTok video quickly captured people's attention, amassing over 1.1 million views, 279,100 likes and 506 comments as of Thursday.
"At least she's adapting lol," pointed out a TikToker, while another said: "She's like, 'Where's my house?'"
Viewers echoed how their dogs can't get enough of their crate: "Nah, my dog loves his crate more than he loves me lol." Ivy's owner responded that Ivy is the same and she "needs alone time."
Another added: "Literally begged my dog to stay in the bed with me a few nights ago and when it got too late she left and went to her crate. Glad she's happy but ouch!"
