Owner Can't Get Privacy When Dog Discovers Cat Flap to Bathroom: 'Go Away'
Owners rarely get a moment of alone time with dogs in the household. Wanting to spend every waking minute with you, dogs will follow you around constantly.
One dog parent learned that even bathrooms are no boundaries for dogs after moving into a new homeāthe previous homeowners thought to put a cat flap in the bathroom. Perhaps it was to keep the door closed with the cat's litter and smell inside. Maybe it gave the cat privacy and kept other animals out.
But this husky owner didn't find the cat flap to be a great idea. Trying to get peace and quiet in a July 11 TikTok video posted to the account @two.colored.eyes.blue, the owner kept the bathroom door shut. It was her moment alone. Or so she thought.
Her husky figured out a way to keep his eyes on her at all times by poking his nose through the cat flap. And when that still wasn't enough, he shoved his head in entirely. It was perfect for him, but the caption revealed how she felt: "Go away dog."
The owner told Newsweek via TikTok that this is a common occurrence with her dog.
"I haven't been alone in that bathroom since we moved in," she said.
As frustrating as it might be, owners might want to start thinking of their dogs following them into the bathroom as a compliment. Yes, everyone wants privacy when conducting their business, but since dogs are pack animals, it is their way of protecting their human in a vulnerable situation.
Dogs feel the need to patrol and protect their homes and families, including the bathroom, Wag Walking reported. They believe you are using the bathroom to mark the area with your scent, just as they do. But going unattended is dangerous in their eyes. Dogs will follow their owners to the bathroom as backup.
However, this behavior could also be due to a dog's curiosity and fascination with everything their owner does. The bathroom is filled with smells too. And with you in there, it's enticing.
'Husky Hole'
The clip reached about 18,000 views and 1,500 likes within one day of posting.
"It's not a cat flap it's a husky hole," a viewer pointed out.
Another commented: "A room with a view."
A doggy TikTok account said: "My mom watches me go to the toilet, it's only fair I do the same right?"
