Senior Cat Adopts Stray Kitten Husband Finds: 'Her Baby Now'
Introducing pets to new animals isn't always the rainbows and butterflies that owners tend to share on social media. Cultivating a relationship can take time, but they will often come around sooner or later and become inseparable.
Ashley and her husband recently welcomed home a new kitten. Her husband decided to take in the stray kitty when he learned his friend's mom had found her in the yard and didn't know what to do.
"We have three older indoor cats and just last month we took in two little barn kittens," Ashley told Newsweek via email. "So my husband thought the stray could use some litter mates."
They eventually brought all the kittens into the house, but their three other cats were not impressed. The cats would hiss and run away, clearly irritated that more fur babies were infiltrating their space.
Although two older cats are still irritated by the kittens, one turned a corner. Shenzi took the new stray kitty under her wing after letting the little guy eat with her. Ever since, Ashley said the cat was "in love."
The caption reads: "That's her baby now."
The motherly instincts have fully come out in Shenzi. About 10 years ago, she had her first litter, and ever since, Shenzi carried around socks like they were her babies.
Ashley said they find socks everywhere. Without a doubt, the couple knows it's Shenzie who moves the socks. They'll see her carrying them around meowing.
But now, with the kittens in the house, Shenzi can move on from caring for socks and instead look after new babies.
"She finally gets to experience motherhood again and she's loving it," Ashley said.
'If Not Me Who'
By Thursday, the precious TikTok video reached 887,000 views, 124,400 likes and 488 comments.
"Oh she is nesting with her baby omg so cute," wrote a viewer.
A second user added: "My favorite thing is older cats adopting babies like their own. Mine loved the kitten I brought home. She learned quick he behaved if she sat on him."
Others commented on what was going through both of the cat's minds. One said: "Kitten be like, 'I guess I just accept this.'"
Another joked: "She's like, 'I'm too old for this but if not me who.'"
