German Shepherd Refusing to Make Eye Contact With Cat Delights Internet
While German shepherds are usually known for their bravery and power, a hilarious video of a terrified dog refusing to make eye contact with a cat has gone viral on TikTok.
The hilarious clip, shared on TikTok by user @coultergsd of Toronto, Canada, shows how nervous a German shepherd named Coulter was around the cat despite being much larger. As the two pets perched mere inches apart, the completely "terrified" dog repeatedly glanced over at the feline but refused to get any closer than necessary.
The poor German shepherd has melted plenty of hearts online, with the video already amassing over 995,800 views and more than 85,700 likes on TikTok.

But contrary to Coulter's sheer terror and nervousness, the cat appeared very unphased by the encounter and had no problem with looking in the dog's direction or even leaning closer to the dog.
Standing up to 26 inches tall at the shoulder and weighing up to 90 pounds, according to the American Kennel Club (AKC), German shepherds are among the fiercest and best protectors any human could wish for. Their muscular frame lends itself to a very powerful presence that would usually intimidate other creatures—but not this cat.
German shepherds have a steadfast work ethic characterized by loyalty, courage, agility, and confidence, making them excellent guardians or working dogs. However, despite being loving and gentle family pets who will protect their humans to no end, the AKC notes that they also possess a level of aloofness that can make it difficult to form new friendships and connections.
Evidently, Coulter still has a long way to go before he's confident enough to interact with the cat, but his owner has continued posting videos of the 3-year-old dog on social media to show just how lovable he is.
When the cat isn't around, the dog can be seen enjoying plenty of boat trips and racing around outside.
What Did TikTokers Say?
Since the TikTok video was posted on April 18, it has delighted social media users and gained more than 2,300 comments on TikTok so far.
One TikToker commented: "He's been taught to avoid eye contact with the boss."
Another person responded: "That side eye is priceless."
"It's the quick turn away when the cat looks in his direction," joked another TikTok user.
One comment reads, "If I stay very still and don't make eye contact, maybe it will just not notice me and walk on by."
