People Sobbing Over How Blind and Deaf Senior Dog Greets Owner Each Morning

A senior dog's way of greeting his owner each morning has melted hearts online.

Every day, Toby, a 16-year-old shih tzu who is partially blind and deaf, waits patiently by the stairs for his owner, Lauren Wagner.

"Toby always greets me like this every morning. It's such a heartwarming way to start the day and always makes me feel loved and appreciated," Wagner told Newsweek. "Toby has been a big support in my spinal surgery recovery, visiting me in the hospital and providing constant companionship."

Wagner, who has been diagnosed with a spinal tumor, has undergone numerous surgeries and continues to live with a nerve condition and disability. Throughout it all, Toby has been her steadfast companion, offering comfort and a sense of normalcy in challenging times, she said. Wagner has been sharing her recovery—including her and Toby's daily routines—with her followers.

"I was inspired to share on TikTok as part of documenting my journey through a spinal tumor diagnosis and my recovery after many surgeries, along with life with my nerve condition and disability," Wagner said. "The reaction has been overwhelmingly positive, and it's amazing to see how many people find joy and inspiration in my story."

The TikTok video, which Wagner posted on June 12, has since received more than 830,000 views and 75,000 likes, with one viewer commenting, "Senior dogs are so damn special."

"Love how the old man turns into a puppy when he sees you," another added.

"What a handsome little boi. Still looks like a pup to me," a user wrote, while another said, "He is so happy to see you!"

Perhaps the most poignant comment came from the user who wrote, "You're his person."

Toby isn't the only senior dog melting hearts on social media. In February, an 11-year-old Labrador named George went viral after a TikTok video showed him happily helping to bring in groceries for his family.

In May, another senior dog gained viral attention for what he did the first night in a new home. After enduring an abusive owner, 11-year-old Taro arrived at his new home and instantly showed his relief, cuddling up with his new owner.
