The hilarious moment a Great Dane tried to take on a tiny bird has gone viral online, leaving his owners second-guessing his protective instincts.

In a TikTok video posted by @titan.thegreatdane, a Great Dane puppy named Titan is locked in a ferocious battle with a baby turkey, who was more than capable of putting up a good fight.

Each time the bird got closer to Titan, the pup leaped backward in fear, all while keeping the bird firmly in his sights.

The clip has gained plenty of attention online since it was shared, with over 281,300 views and more than 18,500 likes on TikTok in just a matter of days.

The caption layered over the video reads: "I don't think our Great Dane would ever protect us from an intruder." While some may have thought that a Great Dane versus a baby bird would be a one-sided battle, Titan proved otherwise on this occasion.

Standing up to 32 inches tall, Great Danes have a mighty and imposing stature. Their physical presence is undeniable, and that's part of what makes them such stellar home guardians.

But despite their enormous frames (they can stand taller than humans when on their hind legs), Great Danes are also incredibly friendly and patient, especially with children. The American Kennel Club notes that early socialization as a puppy is imperative to expose the dog to a variety of people, environments, and scenarios. This, in turn, will help them become well-adjusted adults.

Titan still has a lot of growing left to do before he's fully grown, and maybe once he's reached his full physical potential, he'll be more confident and dominant around the tiny bird. But for now, the puppy remains very nervous and confused about the creature.

It would appear that it isn't just the baby turkey that scares Titan, however, as his owner has shared more clips on TikTok showing how nervous he was around a simple shoe. It may be an inanimate object that posed him zero harm, but Titan couldn't help but bark at it relentlessly to combat his fear.

Since the video of Titan battling it out against the turkey went viral, TikTok users have lauded the pup for his bravery (well, attempted bravery, at least), leading to more than 520 comments so far.

One comment reads: "He is SO BRAVE!! (Ok well not that brave, but he is adorable so it doesn't matter!)"

Another person joked: "In his defense, the bird's close ancestor was the T-Rex...."

"He's like, put that thing back where it came from or so help me," wrote one TikToker.

While another person added: "Great Danes are big babies!"
