Girl Cat's Adorable Obsession With Disney Classic Has Internet in Tears
A cat called Pookie has melted hearts on social media after her mom shared her sweet obsession with one of the most-popular Disney classics ever.
In a video shared on Instagram in May, under the username @pookiemeowster, the fluffy cat can be seen watching The Aristocats movie on her owners' monitor. She is paying attention to every scene, and even moving her head in the direction of the characters on the screen. A caption shared with the clip reads: "POV [Point of view]: your girl cat is obsessed with this movie." It is followed by: "Getting her lessons straight."
Multiple viral videos show cats caught watching TV, but what does science have to say about it?
Vet Babble says that many felines can see what is on TV and do engage with it, but they don't have the same perspective as humans.
Although cats are smart creatures, they don't have the cognitive abilities to process images and sounds into complicated thoughts, so when they watch TV, they are most likely just entertained by the colors and the movement going on.
Felines are also not able to see all the vibrant colors that we see. The Vet Babble website says that, because cats are more adapted to low light situations, they are "less optimized for the red end of the color spectrum," although they can differentiate between shades of red and green.
The video quickly went viral on social media, getting viewers from across Instagram. It has so far received over 3.8 million views and more than 305,000 likes on the platform.
One user, Riceloverforever, commented: "She's looking at her animated version."
Vibe.withsoulshine posted: "Gotta watch with my Winter Chanèl Purr."
Chawal_kadhi wrote: "Pookie is imagining herself in the movie."
Brighttapestry shared: "Awwww, her little sploot with excitement to watch her movie."
Anninha_can added: "My cat is called duchess because of this movie! She's just like yours hahahahaha I used to love this movie as a kid and when I adopted my baby, name couldn't be other."
Aaliyahragdoll commented: "The day after I first got my furbaby, my bf [boyfriend] watched this with me and my furry girl was so invested she got up on her back legs during the piano scene and tried to play it on the TV."
