Mom Shares Cute Video of Kid, Internet Distracted by 'Monster' on the Bed
A Mom who shared a sweet video of her daughter and her dog wasn't expecting the reaction to be about how demonic their pet looks.
Chrissy Fletcher, from the United Kingdom, was on vacation with her 5-year-old daughter Eva and their German shepherd, Diego, when she recorded a cute moment between the two.
While at home, Diego sleeps outside Eva's room, but he got into vacation mode on the trip and decided to hop up on the twin bed beside the little girl. Fletcher, 32, recorded the moment because she "thought it was hilarious."
"He is such a dopey boy, and I think he was just protecting her in a new place," Fletcher told Newsweek.
In a video shared to her TikTok account @christinafletcher92, Fletcher showed Eva patting the giant dog, who lies on the bed and stares at the camera. But, thanks to the flash, his eyes were glowing in his head.
And as she leaves the room, his eyes never leave her.
Fletcher's video has racked up over 1.2 million views and 280,000 likes since being shared on July 16, with many of the thousands of comments summed up in one which said: "Where did you get a hellhound that's so cute?"
"All I can hear is FETCH ME THEIR SOULS," one user said, another asking: "Hmmm did you notice there was a demon in the room?"
"He doesn't bite he steals souls," a commenter wrote.
"Madam that is a void," one joked.
"Good night, my little Lucifer," another TikToker commented.
Aldi worker Fletcher told Newsweek she finds it "hilarious, everyone thinking he looks like a monster as he is the complete opposite."
"He did not approve of the flash; that's why I think I got such a funny reaction from him," she added.
German shepherds are popular as both working dogs and family pets thanks to their loyal and protective nature.
Shepherds are often used in police K9 units in the United States. The breed landed in fourth place on the American Kennel Club's (AKC) list of the most popular dog breeds of 2023.
The AKC describes German shepherds as very affectionate with family and good with young children and notes their noble character and high intelligence as reasons for their popularity.
Fletcher said her partner had a German shepherd when he was growing up and wanted Eva to have the same experience, with her calling it the "best decision I ever made."
"She calls him her brother, and they are so close," she said.
