Owner Realizes Puppy Has Been 'Quiet for Too Long'âWalks Into Chaotic Scene
A dog owner who discovered why her golden retriever Bernie was unusually quiet in the backyard has shared the outcome in a viral TikTok video.
TikToker @rebeccalouise544 shared the moment she found her furry friend engrossed in a delightful activity—devouring a jar of peanut butter he found in the kitchen.
"You always know they are up to something when it all goes quiet," she wrote in the caption of the video. While the text overlay said: "When they've been quiet for too long."
The moment Rebecca walked into the backyard to check on Bernie, she was shocked to find him indulging in an unauthorized treat—but he looked very pleased with himself.
Can Dogs Eat Peanut Butter?
Peanut butter can be a safe and enjoyable treat for dogs, but owners should be aware of a few things.
Firstly, it is important to ensure the peanut butter doesn't contain xylitol, a sugar substitute that is highly toxic to dogs and can lead to low blood sugar, seizures, liver failure and even death.
Moderation is also key when it comes to peanut butter consumption. Due to high fat and protein content, too much can lead to weight issues in pets.
The best options for dogs are peanut butters with minimal ingredients, ideally just peanuts and possibly a small amount of salt. It's best to avoid brands with added sugars, preservatives, or hydrogenated oils.
"In general, peanut butter is safe for dogs to eat, though it should be given as a treat or to aid in medicating the dog, and not as a major part of their diet," Dr. Jamie Whittenburg, veterinarian director at SeniorTailWaggers.com, previously told Newsweek.
In the comments, people shared their reactions. @Shenangelista wrote: "Fact! It's suspicious when they're quiet."
While @DAnikaaaa wrote: "What a picnic!"
"When peanut butter is life. lol," said @Maureen Ivers.
Other commenters couldn't get over Bernie the dog's hilarious face when he got caught with the peanut butter.
"Not a single regret," said @jennifermarin275. While @Amanda added: "Oh my word!!! But you can't be mad at that sweet face."
Last month a dog who has a unique way of eating peanut butter won our weekly Newsweek Pet of the Week.
Rescue dog Maizy is serious about her favorite treat, but in a hilarious video was caught struggling with the sticky snack.
Newsweek reached out to @rebeccalouise544 via TikTok for comment.
