3 Baby Raccoons Wander Into Woman's Yard, Chihuahua Instantly Makes Friends

The moment a dog found some unusual playmates has been melting hearts online as a Chihuahua is caught on camera playing with three young wild raccoons.

The footage, which has amassed millions of views, showed two-year-old Squeeze rolling and jumping around with the three raccoons, clearly enjoying their playtime together.

"She's the happiest dog I've ever met, she loves all people and animals," owner Jules told Newsweek.

Jules posted a series of videos of the cross-species playtime on TikTok under the handle @southsidejules. The first gained more than 3 million views, while follow-ups had thousands.

Raccoons are common across North America, known for their adaptability to various environments from urban areas to forests and farmlands. They often visit houses and have even been known to steal the show at big events, like this recent MLS soccer game.

Typically breeding once a year, mating season occurs between January and mid-March. After a gestation period of around 64 days, females give birth to litters of 2-5 kits in the spring, raising them until they move onto their own territories in the late fall.

While Squeeze's interactions with the raccoons are heartwarming, not all pet-raccoon encounters are as friendly. Raccoons can conflict with domestic pets, potentially leading to injuries. Raccoons can also carry diseases like rabies, parvovirus, and other parasites or bacterial infections that could be passed to domestic animals.

Though Squeeze has made fast friends with the raccoons in the video, it is generally advised to supervise pets when outside and limit their exposure to wild raccoons to prevent potential disease or injury.

On TikTok, millions of viewers were delighted by the clips of the raccoons and shared their reactions in the comments.

"What I expect to see in heaven," Gabby said in the comments. Viewer Chilepleez wrote: "Just a bunch of babies playing."

"It's hard to watch others live your dream," said Saruuuuuuh.

Viewer PhelipeMonforte said: "My icy heart is melting!!!"

"This is so stinking cute," agreed truebluesfan.2007.

This isn't the first time a raccoon has made friends with a domestic dog. Last year in a video likened to a "Disney movie", a German shepherd made friends with a raccoon who the owners lovingly named Rocket.

Another set of young raccoons adopted a French bulldog as their "dad" in an adorable video of the new "little family."
