Rescue Dog Meeting New Owner's Boyfriend Is So Perfect It Could Be Scripted
A TikTok video showing how much a rescue dog warmed to her owner's boyfriend over time has melted hearts online, as social-media users laud their unbreakable bond.
The clip was shared by TikTok user Becca Sim (@beccasimx) and shows the moment the rescue dog, named Pippa, met Sim's boyfriend for the very first time. Her tail was wagging and she seemed curious, but she was reluctant to get too close initially.
That certainly changed with time because flash-forward 10 months and the duo have become inseparable. Sim, of Brisbane, Australia, shared more recent footage of Pippa fast asleep in his arms, looking as if there is nowhere else she would rather be.
Since the video was shared on June 8, social-media users have been amazed to see the loving bond that Pippa has formed with Sim's boyfriend over time. Pippa has well and truly melted hearts on TikTok, leading to more than 163,000 views and almost 10,000 likes at the time of writing.
Each year, animal shelters across the U.S. take in approximately 6.3 million pets, according to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA). Of those animals, around 4.1 million eventually get adopted, including around 2 million dogs each year.
Rescuing a dog from a shelter can be a tricky adjustment, so it is vital that owners consider it carefully and prepare their home for the new addition. The Humane Society of the U.S. suggests owners gather supplies in advance and determine a regimen so they can start implementing it straight away. It is important to initiate a routine with any pet, including feeding times, walks, and sleeping hours.
In the first few weeks, the Humane Society recommends crate training early on to give the dog their own space and help them get accustomed to it. Training classes are also a useful way to teach the canines commands through positive reinforcements.
Above all, the most important aspect for any owner to remember is to be patient. Whether a dog comes from a breeder or the shelter, it can take weeks or months for them to settle into their new home. Owners need to be consistent with routines, and while it might not always be easy, it will certainly be worth it.
Once they are settled in, you have a friend for life who will greet you happily and always be ready for playtime.
Since going viral, the clip of Pippa and her new best buddy has amassed almost 150 comments from TikTok users. One comment reads: "Nothing better than a rescue dog finding a loving home and loving owners."
Another person responded: "I think your dog is telling you that you have likely found your soul mate."
"You're the third wheel now," posted a third user.
One comment added: "She found herself a loving man and she's sticking with him."
