Man Films Bernese Mountain Dog Every Week Growing From Puppy to a Year Old
A man showing off the growth of his puppy over the course of a year has gone viral as internet users fell in love with the gorgeous pup.
Huxley is a Bernese mountain dog, one of the largest dog breeds around, with males weighing up to 115 pounds on average, and standing at an average of 27 inches tall.
Despite their giant size, Bernese are popular family pets thanks to their good-natured temperament, according to the American Kennel Club (AKC). The breed came in 21st in the organization's list of the most popular breeds in America in 2023.
Huxley is certainly a beloved family pet, with his owners setting up a TikTok account dedicated to him: @huxleythebernese.
One particular video of Huxley has gone viral, racking up 92,000 likes since being shared on June 27, as it showed him growing from a tiny pup to an already huge 1-year-old dog.
The video, set to Randy Newman's "You've Got A Friend In Me," begins with Huxley being carried in his owner's arms at 9 weeks old. At 10 weeks, he's already larger, at 11 weeks, larger again.
By 18 weeks, the puppy is already the size of a medium breed, and looks far more difficult to hold, but his owner still cradles him in his arms with a smile on his face.
The clip then skips ahead to a year later, where Huxley is far too large to be held up, and instead stands on his hind legs, almost as tall as the man in the video, and looking on top of the world with his tongue hanging out of his mouth.
His owner captioned the video: "Little Hux to Big Hux," and TikTok users flocked to the comments in their hundreds, one writing, "They grow up too fast."
"Small fluff to big fluff," another labeled it, with others calling Huxley "so handsome" and "adorable."
And a fellow Bernese owner wrote: "My Bear gained 10 pounds every month. He hit 180 pounds, I think he was the biggest Bernese. I miss him so much."
While Huxley already looks quite big at the 1-year mark, he's likely to keep growing: the AKC writes that while dogs are officially considered adults at a year old, they can keep growing up to around 24 months.
Giant breeds, like Bernese, take more time to reach full adult size as their bigger bones need more time to grow.
They also, naturally, need much more food and exercise than smaller breeds, but Huxley's other videos show him getting plenty of snacks, running through meadows, and going on adventures in the car with his owner.
Newsweek has contacted @huxleythebernese on TikTok for comment.
