Woman Looks in Neighbor's Window, Sees Her Cat in There: 'Mocking Me'
For years, one cat parent knew she lived with a prankster, but it wasn't until she spotted her feline at her neighbor's house did it truly sink in.
TikTok user @mal_photo_ explained in a July 19 video that her orange cat would go off for a few days before returning home. Then his trips away got longer and longer. She never knew where he would end up, but it was clear that someone was looking after him.
His secret outdoor life was finally revealed when she spotted him. But he wasn't outside with other kitty friends or hunting a bird. Instead, he was sitting happily in the window of a neighbor's house.
Stunned to find her cat in another house, the two locked eyes. He was "mocking me," the text on the video read. All this time he lived a double life without her ever knowing. As the two looked at each other through the windows, the owner called her cat a "sell out" in the caption.
The owner told Newsweek that the neighbor's house is only around the corner. It's visible from the back of her house and she's been told by others that her cat gets into the house when they leave the windows open. And she doesn't mind, as long as he comes back to her.
"There was a thing where he was away for a really long time, and [we] couldn't find him and rang local vets to keep an eye or see if he had been found or handed in," she said. "The neighbors had brought him in to get a checkup as they thought he was a stray."
Since then, the neighbors have grown attached and the cat continues reaping the benefits of both lives by going back and forth between his homes.
The hilarious TikTok clip amassed over 2 million views, 156,900 likes and 4,885 comments as of Thursday.
"It's the fact he found a home that he still can keep an eye on his other that's smooth," commented a TikToker, while another added: "This would crush me in a way a romantic relationship never could."
One pointed out: "The amount of comments with double-life cats—savages."
Someone suggested getting payback: "Get a dog, and make sure the cat sees you with the dog." Or at least a stuffed animal dog sitting in the window would do the trick.
Is Your Cat Cheating on You?
Being their sneaky selves, cats often go undetected bouncing from house to house. They can make two families or more completely believe he or she is their cat. So, how does one figure out if your cat is cheating on you?
An article on Bustledove into this question and revealed signs an owner should look out for if they let their cat roam outside. For starters, you might notice your kit gone for extended periods. Outdoor cats often wander around for hours, but if they're gone overnight or days, it could be a sign they are leading a double life.
Their physical appearance can be an indicator too. Maybe they gained weight, despite you keeping the same feeding schedule or they've shown a disinterest in food. A cat might come home with an unfamiliar smell lingering on them that will have owners questioning whether or not they're their cat's one true parent.
