CCTV Captures Dog Seizing His Moment With Tomatoes When Owner 'Not Looking'

One dog's sneaky attempt to steal homegrown tomatoes almost succeeded until his moves were revealed not once, but twice.

Terry the Bedlington terrier thought no one would catch his swift moves while outside with one of his owners. He was preparing to water the plants when Terry gunned for the first planter in the yard. Of course, that first one just so happened to be filled with tomatoes for his picking.

He snatched one up in yesterday's TikTok video posted by user @cindypotter762 with the caption that explained: "Terry scanning all the tomatoes when not looking." Getting a taste of the good life, Terry double-checked his owner wasn't looking and went back for seconds and thirds. But his cover was blown in person and on camera.

The owner outside caught him in the act and Terry froze. He was so close to a successful mission. Although, he truly wasn't as his other owner spotted him from inside.

"I happened to spot this going on while looking out the window," the owner told Newsweek via TikTok. "So [I] looked back on the Ring doorbell. He's so cheeky."

This isn't a regular occurrence for Terry, the owner said. And it likely won't be now that he was caught. He knows there might be a hose in his future if he goes for the tomatoes again.

With nearly 110,000 views, TikTok users couldn't stop laughing at the dog's nearly foolproof method.

"I love how he keeps checking. I'm a tomato fiend myself," said one user.

Another added: "You can't provide an all-you-can-eat buffet and then get annoyed when he partakes."

On the bright side, a person pointed out that "at least he's healthy." There could be worse foods he steals!

Keeping Dogs Out of Gardens

With a strong sense of smell and a curiosity to lead them, dogs can't seem to get enough of gardens whether they want to dig in the dirt or like Terry, nibble on food. This, of course, causes headaches for owners, but how does one stop their dog?

An article from WikiHow Pets offers solutions that can help deter your dog away from your plants. Owners could put up a barrier such as a fence to keep them out of a specific part of the yard. Or if that isn't aesthetically pleasing to the eye, try creating a barrier from gravel or mulch or tall, sturdy plants like shrubs.

Another option owners might consider is scents or spices that will discourage dogs from going after edible plants. Spraying vinegar on vegetables is perfectly safe for vegetables and plants, plus it has been shown to repel dogs and other animals. Strong-smelling herbs like mustard powder or semi-rotten potatoes placed around the garden might also do the trick.
