Dog 'Patiently' Waiting for Sibling to Wake Up and Play Melts Hearts
A clip on TikTok showing an English bulldog puppy waiting for her big brother to wake up from his nap so they can play together has melted hearts online.
In a video shared to TikTok last week by user @theresaandspudandbessie, the sassy puppy, Bessie, can be seen sitting by her big brother Spud as he naps on the couch, looking at him in hopes that he'll wake up soon and play.
The video's text overlay reads: "Bessie waiting patiently for Spuddy boy to waken [wake] up."
The poster, Theresa, told Newsweek via email that Spud is a six-and-a-half-year-old English bulldog who loves nothing more than snuggles with her, lying in the position he is in the video, while his 11-month-old sister, Bessie, is the total opposite.
"He is the most lovable, laid-back dog ever. He is a real mummy's boy," she said, "Bessie is the total opposite. She is always up to mischief, but she's just a puppy. She always wants to play with Spud, but sometimes she is too full of beans for him."
However, their behavior difference has never stopped Spud from loving his little sister more than anything else.
"He loves her to bits and is always cleaning her down and snuggling up to her. He is just like a big brother to her. We love them both so much," Theresa added.
How to Introduce Dogs to Each Other
While some dogs may not like the idea of having other pups at home, others, like Spud, are thrilled by the arrival of their new siblings, and that is all due to how they were introduced.
A successful introduction is what sets the basis for a peaceful cohabitation for two or more dogs, but how do you go about it?
Newsweek previously reported on the best way to introduce a puppy to your already established dog, explaining that it's best to keep them separated at first and then do things gradually.
You can then take some short walks with both dogs on a leash held by two different people, only letting them off leash together in a fenced area if they both look ready to do so. It is also important to give your older dog a place to be alone as well as treats for every positive interaction with the puppy to reinforce the good behavior.
TikTok Users React
The TikTok video quickly has so far received over 8,860 views and over 665 likes on the social media platform.
One TikTok user, Janet Harvey, commented: "Aww look at that face it's mint."
GSD mum posted: "So so cute, it's those teeth for me."
