Dog Needs To Hold Mom's Hand for Moral Support as 'Strange Man' Does DIY

A video of a dog letting out an "intimidating bark" while still holding his mom's hand has gone viral on TikTok.

The clip was shared by @cavapooted, the TikTok account of a dog called Teddy, and has amassed over 174,000 views since it was posted on July 11. The pup in the video appears to be a Cavapoo, a cross between a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and a poodle, according to hashtags shared with the post.

A note overlaid on the video reads: "When there's a strange man fixing the door and you need to hold mum's hand."

The footage, captured in the United Kingdom, shows the dog sitting at the top of carpeted stairs. His paw is placed on the arm of a woman sitting next to him, while the sound of works being done can be heard in the background. After glancing at the camera a few times, the dog later lets out a bark before placing both paws on the woman.

"We all need to hold our mums hand sometimes," notes a caption shared with the post.

According to an August 2020 study of 13,700 Finnish dogs in Scientific Reports, fear in dogs can be classified into two categories—social and nonsocial fear—based on the stimuli that causes fear.

The study noted: "Social fear includes fear of other dogs or unfamiliar people, whereas nonsocial fear includes fear of different objects, loud noises and novel situations."

The signs of fear in canines can differ depending on the stimuli causing the fear, the study explained. For example, "dogs that are afraid of strangers usually avoid or withdraw, bark, or have a low tail position."

Fearfulness is influenced by both genetic and environmental factors. "Canine fearfulness is highly heritable and studies have already identified some candidate loci and genes that affect fearfulness," the study noted.

"Environmental factors discovered by previous studies include socialization, training and daily exercise, owner's previous dog experience...among other things," the study added.

'Adorable'

TikTok users swooned over the pup's nervous stance in the viral clip.

Kacee XOXO said "Aaaww so adorable" and @mrsinchcredible noted "awww wee button, keeps looking at you too."

"It's the hold my two paws after the big boy bark that got me," said mcjanners.

"That was one intimidating bark," noted maartje.

Sara said: "He's actually saying 'hold me back mum...I'm dangerous' hence the furrrrrocious bark half way through."
