Puppy Digs Hole in the Backyard To Play With Neighbor's Dog, Gets Caught

A seven-month-old puppy named Zeus has melted hearts on social media after his owner revealed what he did to make playtime with his bestie more accessible.

In a viral clip shared on TikTok on Thursday, under the username larnicotterill, the Staffordshire bull terrier can be seen running across the garden, proudly showing his owner the hole that he and the neighbor's dog dug up in order to play together.

As the poster films closer to the garden hole, the neighbor's dog, complicit in Zeus' shenanigans, looks over at her with puppy eyes, as if he's worried about getting caught in the middle of it.

"When your seven-month-old puppy has something to show you," says a caption shared along with the heartwarming clip which has so far received over 607,300 views and 83,600 likes on the platform.

It's common behavior for dogs to dig dirt, but while Zeus had a valid reason to do so, for some dogs it may be a sign of a struggle.

The American Kennel Club explains that often dogs dig to catch burrowing animals and insects, or to keep cool during summertime, but if they're exhibiting chronic digging behavior, they could be understimulated.

"Dogs also will dig to get under barriers. They might be trying to escape the yard to find more exciting locations or even search for a mate," the website added. "But keep in mind, not all escape artists are looking for fun. Some dogs will try to escape because they are anxious in the yard or scared to be alone."

One user, Tanya, commented: "A blue heeler too. I can comfortably say that the blue heeler was the instigator. I've got a red heeler and [he's] ALWAYS tunneling to the neighbors' dogs."

Ana said: "As a fellow Heeler owner to a current 7mo... this is definitely something he would do."

Bec Carey wrote: "Love the eyes on the neighbors dog to begin with, like oh no we got busted."

Another user, Sacred Space Crystals said: "So sweet, my elderly staffy became friends with the pit bull next door. We adopted the pit bull but my staffy still looked for his friend next door."

Amber James added: "My childhood Stafford used to headbutt his way through our wood pailing fence to get to the dog in the next yard! That look of guilt is so classic."
