Reason Cat Owner Rushes Home From Work Every Day Delights Internet
A woman has revealed the reason she hurries home from work, and the internet can hardly blame her.
The heartwarming clip she shared on TikTok (@beakandsnoot) has amassed 1.1 million views and over 272,000 likes.
At first glance, one may think that the woman's pride and joy is her bed which can be seen in the window that she is approaching. But then, a 12-week-old kitten and a cat cuddling becomes visible.
Many owners can relate to the caption that describes seeing their faces as "the best feeling." Studies have previously shown that having a pet is beneficial to their owners' mental health.
According to the American Veterinary Medical Association, 26 percent of U.S. households own a cat. That means around 37 million households may feel less stressed when accompanied by their furry friend. In 2019, researchers at Washington State University found that a 10-minute Animal Visitation Program, involving hands-on petting of cats and dogs, effectively reduced stress levels. The 249 participants were divided into groups, and everyone's salivary cortisol levels were measured before and after the intervention.
The results showed that students who engaged in hands-on petting experienced significantly lower stress levels compared to those who did not touch any animals. This suggests that brief, hands-on interactions with animals can provide immediate stress relief.
According to the pet food company Purina, interacting with cats stimulates the release of hormones like serotonin, dopamine, and oxytocin in humans, which are linked to positive feelings. Oxytocin, in particular, is known for promoting bonding and stress relief, and it also has physiological effects such as lowering heart rate and slowing breathing.
So it may not be surprising to know that many cat lovers have flocked to the comment section of the video shared on June 4.
"You don't understand, I have cats at home," said one comment with 15,900 likes.
Another user said: "I'm glad I'm not the only one who stands outside their own home looking at their cats through the window instead of just going in. Lol."
"The best reason in my opinion," said a third commenter while another user said: "I couldn't leave them."
One of the perks of working from home is spending more time with pets but it isn't always as it seems. While furry companions make great coworkers, sometimes their cuteness overload can be distracting and owners are forced to take matters into their own hands. Working remotely also gives owners the chance to see what their pets really get up to when nobody is looking and sometimes, it can lead to a pleasant surprise.
