Waking a sleeping dog can be difficult, which is why some owners resort to jingling their leash around, or even holding food in front of their nose. But one owner has gone viral after revealing the one unexpected utterance that awakens his dog without fail.

In a video posted by TikTok user @thatpowerwashguy, the exhausted pup is sleeping on the couch and catching up on some hard-earned rest. As his owner speaks to him and tries to get his attention, nothing can rouse the snoozing dog, apart from "the magic word."

When @thatpowerwashguy mentions the word "Frisbee," the dog's eyes immediately open, slowly. Of course, he is far too tired to lift up his head, but the dog stares at his owner expectantly after hearing his favorite word.

The clip has delighted social media users, and in just a matter of days it has gained over 775,800 views and more than 181,200 likes on TikTok.

While we all like to think our dogs know exactly what we're saying, the truth is that they don't understand the conversations we have with them, and they won't be able to join in anytime soon.

As explained by VCA Animal Hospitals, dogs can understand familiar words, such as "sit," "stay," or "walk" because they hear them so often and they build associations with those terms. When an owner says it's time for food, dogs might know enough to head over to their bowl because they've learned that this word means it magically refills.

It's believed that dogs understand more from their owner's tone of voice and their overall body language, rather than the words that are being said. They can pick up on physical clues, body movements, and facial expressions and determine a meaning from those signs.

For example, you could tell your dog that they're the goodest boy or girl on the planet, but if you say it with a straight face and in a dull tone, they won't realize that you're praising them. Instead, it's much better to convey meaning through tone to help dogs pick up on meaning.

After the dog's antics went viral on TikTok, internet users couldn't get enough of this unique term that works as his very own alarm clock.

With over 370 comments on the post already, many people were howling with laughter at the dog's reaction. One comment reads: "You resurrected this dog."

Another TikToker responded: "The eye opening in slow motion is the best part."

"When the subconscious is always on alert," joked one social media user.

While another person added: "I love that he is too smart to actually get up because he knows you might be messing with him."
