A stray dog just wandered into a house in a rural town in Texas and refused to leave the property until the woman decided to welcome her in.

In a heart-warming clip shared on TikTok in June, under the username forfray, the Great Pyrenees pup can be seen making herself at home in the poster's garage, and following the home owner around like she'd known her forever.

"The dog distribution system got us! If she stays, what should we name her??" says a caption shared with the viral post.

However, although the poster was ready to take her in and give her a new life, the dog ended up leaving.

The poster, Katie Frazier, told Newsweek that the pup stayed on her property for about five days, while she fed her, gave her water, and even made an appointment to get her checked out by the vet, but she left the night before the appointment and she has never come back.

"I posted in our small town's Facebook group to see if anyone knew who she belongs to, but I only got more comments from people who had seen her out on the loose, and no one knew where she lived or who she belonged to.

"At that time, we deducted that she had been on the loose for over a month based on other people's sightings of her. About a week and a half after we last saw her, another lady posted in the same Facebook group saying that the same dog was on her property and they are about 8 miles away from us, so they definitely roam really far! Great White Pyrenees are known wanderers."

In the clip, Frazier explained that she was ready to welcome the pup into her home as a guard dog to look after her farm animals, which is a perfect jobs for Great Pyrenees.

The American Kennel Club explains that they are not just guard dogs, they are guardians! In fact, despite them being so big, their instinct is to protect the flock and care for them, while being kind and patient with all vulnerable animals.

Each year 6.3 million pets enter U.S. shelters, which is an average of 17,260 a day, according to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. The number of dogs and cats taken in by pet shelters hit 46,807 during January 2023, an increase of 1,744 compared with January 2022, the 24Pet 'Shelter Watch Report' found.

Around 920,000 surrendered animals are euthanized every year. Shelters are striving to minimize euthanasia rates by promoting adoption campaigns, spaying and neutering programs, and behavior rehabilitation.

The video quickly went viral on social media, getting viewers from across TikTok. It has so far received over 761,900 views and 72,800 likes on the platform.

One user, Dsouth3, commented: "I had a dog that walked up my driveway and sat down. Ended up being love of my life. Best 12 years I've ever known."

Christielundricky added: "I got a black lab the same way, it was my neighbors but wouldn't stay home, would come to our house. finally neighbor said just keep him. we had him 6 years before he died from cancer."
