Cat's 'Death Stare' After Owner Wakes Him Up Leaves Internet in Stitches
A recent Instagram reel showing a cat's reaction to being woken up has captured the attention of social media users.
The video, posted on Instagram on June 9 by user @candace_maureen, shows a fluffy tuxedo cat giving his owner a death stare after being disturbed from his nap.
"Another death scare," the owner wrote in the video's text overlay, adding in the caption, "Can someone tell me what's wrong with him?? lol."
The video went viral on social media, receiving more than 17.8 million views and 591,074 likes on Instagram.
One viewer commented, "I want to sleep that deeply just for one night in my entire life!"
Newsweek has contacted @candace_maureen for comment via Instagram comments. We could not verify the details of the case.
Cats are known for their love of sleep, often snoozing for 12 to 18 hours a day, according to Cats Protection, a feline welfare charity in the U.K. This extensive sleep schedule helps them conserve energy for their bursts of activity.
"A tired cat with no energy can't hunt or protect themselves, so it's important for them to sleep lots to make sure they're wide awake and ready for anything," the charity said. While domestic cats may not need to hunt for food, their natural instincts still drive them to rest frequently.
Although it may look like they're sleeping too much, Cats Protection said it's best not to disturb cats when they are sleeping. "Cats need a lot of sleep, so don't wake them up or disturb them when they go off to their favorite nap spot," it added.
Kittens and senior cats usually sleep more than the average adult cat. This is because most of a kitten's energy is spent growing, so they need more sleep to recharge their body. Older cats sleep more because they tire out much faster.
In the Instagram video's comments section, one user wrote, "Bro was connected to his life in another reality."
"I'm a vet. Unfortunately, I have seen this in young kittens my entire career," a commenter said. "It seems as if Rocket is suffering with a very serious case of the sleepies."
Another added, "Must have picked up a lot of extra shifts at the biscuit factory."
