What German Shepherd Does Day After Being Rescued Says It All: 'Very Happy'

Adopted dogs usually come from overcrowded, stressful animal shelters and need time to decompress when they move into their forever homes. It can take up to three months for them to fully feel at ease with their new environment and routine.

However, a rescued German shepherd took no time to decompress. He knew this was his forever and instantly made himself feel at home. In a July 28 Reddit video on the subreddit channel r/germanshepherds/, user Awkward_Rhubarb2830 showed how her newly adopted dog didn't waste any time getting his love, which he clearly needed given what he's been through.

The owner told Newsweek via Reddit that Cyrus, who is believed to be about 3, was a stray. He was hit by a car and broke his back leg. The animal shelter rehabbed him back to health before she adopted him.

The clip was filmed about a day after Cyrus was brought home. Instead of shying away and taking time for himself, Cyrus sprawled out on top of his owner sitting on the couch. He looked to be in heaven, accepting all the cuddles.

The caption on the post reads: "I rescued this guy a day or so ago, and he seems very happy."

Very happy doesn't even begin to explain how Cyrus looked. Relaxed, at peace and never going back to his previous life. He would stay there getting belly scratches all day if he could.

While this video was from the day after bringing Cyrus home, he started showing his affection and need for cuddles the same day as his adoption.

"It took him about 3 hours to become super cuddly," the owner said.

In the comment section, the owner wrote: "He'll literally come up and body slam me on the bed to cuddle, and stare up at me like he's in love."

Redditor Reactions

As of Thursday, the Reddit video brought in over 4,700 upvotes and 80 comments. Viewers couldn't believe how comfortable Cyrus felt instantly.

"That's a level of comfort that's not easy to get from a new rescue dog. He must be trusting of you and his situation. You're doing something right," said a Reddit user.

Another added: "For a rescued dog to feel so comfortable this soon is great. You now have a best friend in the world."

A third person wrote: "Compassion truly wins... thank you for adopting."
