Apartment Dog Gets First HouseâBut Has No Idea How a Screen Door Works
A dog's reaction to seeing his new home won viewers' hearts, but his confusion over the extra barrier leading outside had everyone in stitches.
This golden retriever, Barley, only knew a studio apartment before moving into his first house, with owner Bri Jackson. She brought him to the new digs in North Carolina for a look without any furniture during a June 16 TikTok video posted to the account @missjackson_in3rd.
Barley ran around the house, scouting out his new room upstairs and all the space he now had to play. With his tail wagging the entire tour, the surprises kept coming. He realized the home includes a backyard he gets to call his own, an outdoor space to come and go as he pleases.

Wanting to jump outside the second the door opened, Barley went snoot first into the screen door and looked back at Jackson with confusion. What the heck was this contraption? He met his new match: the screen door.
Jackson pressed her hand against the screen to show Barley the second part of the door that needed to slide back before he could go outside. However, he marginally absorbed that information. Being outside was the only thing on his mind.
"For a while, he hesitated before going outside to make sure it was not there," Jackson told Newsweek via email. "But now he goes running out the door!"

A screen door is the last thing to stop Barley from enjoying his new home, which Jackson said he's loving. They both upgraded from a studio apartment to living like royalty.
TikTokers React
The precious TikTok video of Barley brought in over 3.3 million views, 377,500 likes and 318 comments as of Thursday. Viewers couldn't stop laughing because they've gone through similar situations with their dogs.
"My rescue went thru the screen door like the koolaid man and created a doggy door," said a TikToker, with a second adding: "The first time my dog met a screen door it was hilarious. He ran right through it, had no clue it was there."
Others commented on the dog's reaction to seeing the rest of the house: "The realization that the inside zoomies will now be twice as fun."
Another chimed in: "So much room for activities."
