Hysterics as Puppy Desperately Trying to Escape Crate Doesn't See Open Door
Internet users have been left in stitches after seeing a golden retriever's tantrum at being locked inside her crate—despite its door being wide open.
The hilarious clip was shared to TikTok by user @lifeofrachel_ last month and showed Amber "being a silly puppy" when she thought she was locked inside her crate. The mischievous dog could be seen gnawing at the metal bars and trying to chew her way out, without noticing that the door was completely clear for her to come and go.
The video has gone viral since it was posted on July 9, amassing over 1.3 million views and more than 73,600 likes from amused TikTok users.
The video's text overlay reads: "POV: watching Amber give off because she can't get out, even though the door was open the whole time."
Newsweek reached out to @lifeofrachel_ via TikTok and Instagram for comment. We could not verify the details of the case.
While Amber didn't look too pleased about being inside her crate, there can indeed be many perks to crate training from a young age. The American Kennel Club (AKC) explains on its website that it provides dogs with their own personal space where they can sleep, relax, and feel safe. It also implements a routine for them and teaches them how to be alone—rather than clinging to your every move.
There are many ways to start crate training, and to help a dog learn to love it. The AKC recommends that owners start by encouraging their pup to explore it by themselves and leaving the door open the whole time. If they're anxious about the enclosed space, forcing them in won't help as they need to feel comfortable and safe.
The pups should build positive associations with the space, so owners can leave treats inside it and let the dog go and get them when they feel ready. It shouldn't be a punitive measure either, so dogs shouldn't be put in a time-out after misbehaving. They need to enjoy being inside, not resent it.
Owners could try feeding them inside the crate, placing toys in there, and reward them for calm behavior when inside to ensure dogs regard it positively each time. It may involve lots of patience, but the AKC highlights that rushing it could undo any progress you've already made.
TikTok Users React
Amber is certainly still learning to love her crate, but she's left the internet in hysterics with her antics. Even her owner can't help but laugh at her silliness, as the caption alongside the video reads: "This video cracks me up every time. She's such a plonker."
Much to the delight of TikTok, her owner has continued sharing more videos of Amber biting the metal bars, with a variety of different audio clips for added effect.
Despite her confusion at the time, users couldn't help but laud her for attempting to break out of the crate all by herself. Among the 4,200 comments on the viral post, one TikTok user wrote: "Not the brightest but definitely the cutest."
Another added: "Amber is my spirit animal."
"Can you just let her have her dramatic moment," one TikTok user jokingly wrote.
While another user responded: "I feel she might be a tough one to train."
