Face of Dog With Vegetarian Owners at 'Real BBQ' Has Internet in Stitches
A vegetarian family's dog has left social media viewers laughing after a video of him drooling over meat at a "real" barbecue went viral.
In the clip shared on TikTok last Thursday under the username alfie.the.smiling.goldie, the golden retriever can be seen sitting by the grill at the barbecue and focusing exclusively on the meat, which his owners don't eat.
"POV: your parents are veggies and you've finally been invited to a real BBQ," a caption with the hilarious clip reads.
While some users worried about the dog not getting meat, his owners reassured everyone that Alfie did get to eat some and he loved it. Moreover, although they're vegetarians, Alfie always gets raw meat in his diet.
While Alfie is not a vegetarian, the American Kennel Club (AKC) says that dogs are not obligate (or true) carnivores and can thrive on a meatless diet as long as it is properly balanced.
However, the website adds: "As is true with people who prefer vegetarian diets, protein or vitamin deficiency can occur in dogs who eat strictly vegetarian diets if they are not properly supplemented."
The AKC says the best option for your dog is to feed it food that is specifically formulated for dogs because it has all the nutrients it needs to stay healthy and keep in shape.
If home-cooked meals are your dietary choice for your dog, check with your vet and make sure you include all the essential nutrients.

The video quickly went viral on social media and has so far received over 522,400 views and 63,700 likes.
One user, Juliejuless, commented: "My veggie dog LIVES for veggies/fruit, my sisters dog who she rescued looks at veggies with pure disgust."
