Dog's Reaction to Noticing New Neighbor Delights Internet: 'First Crush'

A dog who found his "first crush" has melted hearts across the internet.

Zion the German shepherd was recorded by his owner taking notice of new neighbors who moved close to their city apartment.

With both families boasting large balconies, Zion was able to stand outside and stare intently, waiting for the neighbor to notice him.

A clip shared to TikTok account @zionthegsd captured the moment his new friend noticed him too.

It showed Zion staring up at a nearby balcony, with the camera then panning to Zion's line of sight.

At first, the neighbor's dog—who looked to be a similar breed to Zion—doesn't appear to notice him.

But within seconds, the new dog's tail begins wagging furiously, as the pair stare at each other.

His owner wrote on the caption, from Zion's point of view: "This may be my first crush. Play date soon?"

TikTok users went wild for the clip, which has been liked over 28,000 times and has 740,000 views since being shared on July 15.

One joked: "I will pray that dog doesn't jump (for love)," while another said it proved "you don't have to go out to find the love of your life."

"Puppy love," one called it, and another aptly compared it to "Romeo and Juliet" — balconies and all.

Some expressed concern for the dog being out on the high-rise balcony as he could jump or fall over the glass, but his owner assured everyone in the comments: "He's safe guys!

"Only out there with two of us watching and def not allowed on the chairs!"

In the United States, 52 percent of renters live in an apartment rather than a house, according to a report from Forbes.

While houses with gardens are ideal for a dog, there are plenty of breeds suited for apartment living: in 2023, Newsweek considered known traits from breeds that make them the best options for apartment dwelling.

Less energetic, less aggressive, less vocal and easier to train dogs would be easier to keep happy in an apartment, with Basenjis, Basset Hounds, Golden Retrievers and Whippets among those making the list.

Homeowners can make their own choice about having dogs, but renters would have to get a landlord's permission to have an animal in their rented home.

The Humane Society recommends giving yourself as much time as possible to find an animal-friendly listing, and making a 'resume' for your pet showing off their best qualities.
