Tears as Dog Has Beautiful Reaction to His Sibling's Ashes

A pup named McCoy has left the internet in tears after his owner shared his emotional reaction to smelling his late brother and best friend once again, in a clip that has since gone viral on social media.

In the heartbreaking clip, shared on TikTok in June, under the username trinatrainwreck, the pup from Currie, Minnesota, can be seen wagging his tail as he smells his late brother's ashes and the collar he used to wear before passing.

"We put our pup down 2 weeks ago. Today, we finally brought him home to his brother again," says a caption shared with the viral clip.

The pup's owner, Trina, told Newsweek that McCoy is her nine-year-old "soul dog," who has been by her side during the hardest times in her life.

"McCoy came into my life a few weeks after my late boyfriend passed away in 2014 from a suspicious drowning. After losing a loved one, basic tasks become nearly impossible, but McCoy changed that and helped me survive. He was the reason I had to get out of bed every morning and I was forced to put one foot in front of the other. Nine years later, that is still true after we lost McCoy's best friend, Olie."

Her boyfriend, Adam, also from Currie, Minnesota, got Olie, the late pup whose ashes are shown in the clip, in 2017 while attending college, and once they met, he and McCoy immediately became besties.

"After the night Adam and I met, we became Instagram friends and I noticed in so many of his pictures a beautiful Labrador retriever that looked like he could be my dog's twin. We obviously had a big connection through our dogs and quickly introduced McCoy to Olie. They soon after became roommates, brothers and best friends."

The pups loved doing everything together, from hunting to fishing and most of all cruising around the country side together.

"I always prayed that McCoy would live long enough to get me to my 'family'... and he did. Unfortunately, Olie passed away not long after life finally fell into place.

Ollie died of Lyme Nephritis, which is kidney failure due to complications from Lyme Disease, a rare chronic inflammatory disease that affects many body systems.

First Vet explains that humans as well as other animals, including cats, can be infected by this disease too, which can be easily transmitted through tick bites.

"The vast majority of ticks will not transmit the disease. However, it is only transmitted between animals by ticks. Lyme disease is a growing concern and owners should be aware of the dangers and remove ticks quickly to minimize the risks," the website explains.

Trina said that once diagnosed, Olie started to rapidly lose weight, before developing the rare complication leading to his passing.

"In our vet's 20 years of experience, she has never seen/treated a single case of Lyme Nephritis. Olie was the exception. She told us dogs don't survive it. We thought he wouldn't live past a week, then that turned into a month, then more. After 6 months, Olie succumbed to Lyme Nephritis surrounded by his family and best friend McCoy."

When Olie passed, McCoy was confused and kept looking for him in every room of the house, so his owners brought his beloved brother back home once the ashes were ready to give their pup the opportunity to process what happened and get some closure.

"McCoy was sad for a couple months following Olie's death, but we are happy to say that McCoy now has a bonus brother: A sweet, 12-week-old golden retriever puppy named Patrick. He is a silver lining and brings the happy to our sadness. He's helped us through a soul-pup loss. Another 'grief pup.' Ah, the circle of life."

The video quickly went viral on social media, getting viewers from across TikTok. It has so far received over 1.7 million views and 266,000 likes on the platform.

One user, Janelle, commented: "One out of the 1000 TikTok's I've watched that made me cry. The same thing happens to me honey."

Baked_Potato said: "That last car ride home with them hits hard."

Alyssa7840 added: "When I picked up that exact bag I sat in the parking lot for an hour crying. So sorry for your loss."
