Golden Retriever Finds Hilarious Way to Use Baby Stroller to His Advantage
Dog walks are supposed to keep pups active and stretch their legs—all four of them. However, one golden retriever has delighted the internet by discovering his own way of using a stroller to his advantage.
While Georgina Peers was out for a walk with her 3-month-old puppy, Max, and her 1-year-old daughter, Serena, the golden retriever decided he'd had enough and needed a break. Peers captured a hilarious video of Max resting his two front legs in the basket underneath the stroller, while keeping the momentum going with his back legs.
Peers was intrigued by her pup's ingenuity when he did it the first time, but she told Newsweek that it's become a habit that he does "on every walk."
She isn't sure if he thinks he's helping to push the stroller, or just being protective of his baby sister who he loves to be around. But Peers, from Liverpool, United Kingdom, does have one other hypothesis, as she suggested that maybe "he's just being lazy."
She continued: "When I saw him walking like that, I just couldn't believe it. He's so hilarious, and I like to think maybe he's trying to help me push the stroller.
"He's rather protective of his baby sister, but unfortunately, she doesn't want anything to do with him. He tends to protect her rather than try to play with her. The first time he did something like this was when he heard her cry, and he was literally standing up pushing the stroller."
Exercise is essential for a dog's physical and mental well-being, but the American Kennel Club (AKC) notes that it's important to tailor the exercise to your dog's age, breed, and schedule. It's good to gradually introduce leash or harness training from a young age, and once they get the hang of it, they can take the leap and start tackling longer walks.
It's recommended that puppies go for walks of about five minutes multiplied by every month of their age, once or twice a day. Preferably, walks should be at least an hour after a meal so they can digest their food and absorb the nutrients.
Notably, puppies get tired quickly, so it's important to look out for signs of fatigue, including sitting or slowing down. In those instances, the AKC recommends picking them up and carrying them—or even taking a doggy stroller.
Max has no need for his own stroller however, as he's more than happy to take advantage of his baby sister's.
"I hope he's still trying to get under the stroller when he's fully grown because that will certainly be a sight to see," Peers told Newsweek.
The Social Media Reaction
After capturing his antics during his walk, Peers shared the clip on TikTok (@maxs.day.everyday). The clip has amused many social media users, and in just a matter of days it's already gained over 149,300 views and 11,400 likes.
TikTok users can't get enough of how Max avoids too much strenuous exercise, and Peers has been delighted by the positive response since going viral. "I love that people find him just as hilarious as us," she added.
Plenty of social media users lauded his innovative way of resting his legs, while others praised him for being so helpful. One comment reads: "Just saving up leg battery."
Another person responded: "He looks so proud for helping."
While another TikToker joked: "He's not even aware his back legs are still going."
